hey people, im after an m4400 after been more convinced to choose one over the 8530w and w500. the thing i need to no most is this.
is there anyone thats got a m4400 that also has/had a T61p? if so i assume that you no it was very quiet and silent under heavy strain in my opinion( i had the new line from may 08)
I need to compare the same things before buying one, so how loud is the fan in the m4400 compared to the T61p with the T9300? which was just always quiet for me.
And how hot is the heat in the m4400 compared to the t61p wth same spec.

Any replies would be deeply appreciated.

P.s i state the the T61p with thee T9300 because i assume it was quieter and cooler than the T7700/T7800

What about its battery life? What's the practical between a 6- and a 9-cell in minutes/hours and weight?

    Thanks.

I cant confirm the weight, but i think i read somewhere its 200g heavier. With the 6 cell you get between 2.5-3.5 hrs, with the 9 cell you get between 3.5-4.5hrs.

if i set my power savings to minimal, the battery meter states i have 3hrs45mins remaining.

With screen brightness low, security devices disabled etc, i get about 4.5hrs surfing the net via wifi. im using a t9600 processor and wuxga screen, 7200rpm hdd.

I dont have a t61p myself, but my team mate has one. Last week we were in london to do some market research and travelling light, we just brought his laptop. He has the extended battery so the battery life is great!! almost 7 hours.
im not sure what processor he has. when surfing the net and doing office tasks, both the m4400 and the t61 have their fan at low. I would say its about the same. You have to listen hard to hear it. However under load, the m4400 is noisier than the t61. I wouldnt say its annoyingly noisy however.
the t61 runs much cooler than the m4400 when under load. the t61 is a very nice laptop, but i prefer my m4400...i like the fact that dell is finally putting out laptops that can match the quality of the older thinkpads (the quality on the newer ones is not what it used to be IMO)

    hope this helps

hello...i was considering this laptop...and had a question....

Can we call them and request to change/upgrade the memory from 2x1GB to 1x2Gb, as i plan to purchase another 2 GB stick from site like newegg.com and put it in. Otherwise i would have 3GB and with 1 GB left out with no use for me.

Also do Dell release coupons for this line of laptops end nov? i need to buy one business range laptop by 30th nov....

you can, but they charge you more. its really expensive. you're better off ebaying the ram or just asking them to discount the upgrade to 4gb. this is what i did. they're normally reasonable about discounting upgrades.
