does anyone else think the angular shape of the extended battery really fits in well with the rest of the laptop design? it looks "matched" not like some other protruding batteries that seem like a sore thumb.

another observation i made.....it seems like the precision has lots of design cues that look somewhat similar to thinkpads and also macbook pro's. its like the illegitimate love child of a thinkpad and macbook pro :p anyone else think so?

Nope,I think it sticks out like a sore thumb on the M4400 also....stick out anything on a notebook is dumb design, they do it so they can make their size and weight specs seem more appealing....its just moving dimensions from one area to another unspecified area.

This is definitely one of the things I don't like over the previous generation ......I'm pretty keen on getting a six cell at some stage, but they're soo ****ed expensive:(

have you seen some of the extended batteries out there? like on the thinkpads, some of them are not even symmetrical!

its like offset to one side lol.

Yes I have, but, sticking out is sticking out whichever way you look at it.;)

I don't consider a 9 cell,an extended battery....it wasn't on the previous three generations of 15" precisions and latitudes, and their 9 cell fitted within the confines of the published dimensions......not extended the depth of the notebook by 22mm,making the depth footprint as large as a 17" notebook.

I'll personally be happier with a flush fitting 6 cell.

Hi, I am trying to buy a M4400 with Windows XP x64, Quadro FX1700, 8GB RAM, Quad Extreme CPU, 370 Bluetooth, etc., and the Dell rep told me the Bluetooth Card 370 is not compatible with XP x64, and I checked the drivers and there is a driver, I was also looking for XP x64 drivers for the Quadro FX1700 and I did not find them, in your experience it's possible to FULLY configure Windows XP x64 in the M4400 ?, any previous experience ?, based on the Dell.com/support all the drivers are there but FX1700, but if FX1700 is the FX770 overclocked the FX770 XP x64 drivers should work with the FX1700 ?, please your comments, thanks a lot.

Why do you want XP64? From what I hear there's nothing but problems with that OS.

I would say mainly because is robust and simple, it does not have all the garbage like Vista, What would you recommend ?, Vista x64 ?, or any Linux x64 flavor ?

the compatibility issues with xp64 outweigh and simple-ness.....and im not sure about it being robust either....

Robust? I highly doubt it. It's anything but. There's so many compatibility issues, I tried it on my M4400 and many of my drivers BSOD immediately. I recommend dual-booting XP32 a vLite'd version of Vista64, which can kill off about 1-2GB off the install disk. I removed so much BS from the install using vLite, the OS is extremely simple and lightweight.
