Here'sa thread t list reviews, pictures, comments , issues an dquestions with the new M4400 Precision laptoop.

    First question:

Those of you who have received your M4400 laptops and selected the XP downgrade option - did you receive a Resource DVD for Vista AND a Resource CD for XP to enable reinstalls of the two Operating systems if need be.

When I purchased my M4300 I received both a DVD & a CD for Vista and XP respectively. I read recently where somene who just got their E6500 only received the Vista DVD; so I am concerned about this.

blindpan and cpaek , I know you two have received your M4400s - please confirm if you got the CD/DVD for both Vista & XP.

    Thanks.

Yes, both dvd's come with the laptop. I haven't installed vista yet. Not sure if I will since I want the graphics performance as well.

Thanks cpaek. I don't intend to install Vista...but I just want to be sure I have BOTH DVDs - in case I need to reinstall XP or install Vista.

One more question.. did it come with the printed Quick Reference Guide & Printed Manuals? I've heard they don't send this out anymore....unless you ask.

I'm still amazed at your speedy delivery.

What are your intial impressions with its performance and build quality

WTH is wrong with the speed when posting on this forum?

    Got my M4400 yesterday...about 4 days early.

Have to say I'm a bit disappointed with the build quality....while the screen cover is alloy,it is very very thin and can be twisted/deformed relatively easily, also the plate underneath that covers the ram/cpu etc doesn't seem to be attached by many screws and rattles when you put the notebook on your lap or tap/press it.....plus the 9 cell battery has slop in its mounting and also rattles/knocks.....this seems a backwards step in the rugged build of the M65 and M70 I also owned.

Another concern is the power jack strength [seems really flexi and loose] and the stupid trend of putting inline filter or whatever it is a couple of inches away from the connector on the cord.....it snags on everything and adds to my concerns about the power port longevity.

The positive things are the speed especially after putting in a hitachi 320 7.2k hard drive, absolutely lovely screen and keyboard, much higher quality feeling dvd tray, nice stiff screen hinges....3dmark06 score of 5960 which is better than I was expecting, and it seems to run pretty cool even though its got a tiny little fan.
Haven't tried any games yet,but will tonight.

    Solidworks runs perfectly as expected.

    Thanks weegie for your update.

Can you tell us when you ordered and your full specs?

Did you order from the USA?

    Thanks.

I'm looking at one of these, but I'm waiting for the 1700m. If the 770 gets 6k, the 1700m must get a bit higher. Should be in September, which is around the corner, so why not wait, unless you *must* have one now.

AFAIK 1700 is 770 with higher clocks. So what's the point? I can overclock 770 and effect will be same. Or I just don't understand something dunno.

I posted some in game benchmarks using fraps here.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=292033

No,it doesn't get hot while gaming, and very cool normally.Max GPU temp was 74 deg C playing Crysis so far.

Anybody else with theirs yet that thinks the IDT sound is complete junk......I thought it was just typical notebook speakers until I hooked it up to some Logitech Z-2300's and was shocked to hear what I did......kinda makes my vostro 1310 sound like a multi thousand dollar stereo sytem....it actually sound soo bad I think there's probably something wrong with it.

@cnpt......ordered 20-8 and recieved on the 28-8,I'm in New Zealand.

    Cheers.
