Wish I could help Enduct, but I know very little about server 03,but am very interested in your experiments and findings.

Just had a call from a reasonably switched on sounding dell support guy,who stated that he'd been researching the XP sound issue for us and reckoned that SP3 for XP will take advantage of the HD audio built into the intel motherboard ? [his words]

I'm not too annoyed with the W2K3 issue, as it was only a test, and it's still early to figure out what's the problem. I'll give your Dell rep idea a try today. I do know there is a knowledge base on this based off the HD Audio, and it was included in SP3 (I think KB888111). I'll do an integrated install and report back shortly.

Simple. I don't have that yet :) If I did I would test it out for sure.

Have just done a clean install with the latest software and the problem still exists with the bad sound quality. It really does sound like 8-bit quality or something worse.

The first test I did when I got my machine was 5387 marks in 3dmark06 with the preinstalled drivers on the FX770M in Windows XP... They are 176.07 WHQL.

On another note, has anyone noticed "keyboard lag" with their M4400 in Windows XP? That is when a key is held down, the keyboard locks up and doesn't repeat letters smoothly. I haven't tried it in Vista as yet, but for W2K3 and XP, both start locking up for a second or so after a certain period, after which it repeats again.

This can be adjusted in the Control Panel under KEyboard, try the first slider.

What resolution did you perform the 3DMark06 test at? Would it possible for you to a test with different drivers? I'm really interested to see what kind of gains can be expected with GeForce drivers, but I understand if you're unwilling to do that! :p

Has anybody done a battery drain test to see how long the battery will last under normal surfing/working with Office/etc.?

Hmm... It went away after I restarted the machine... I think time to install a bit more ram into it or something :)

At native resolution (1440x900). I will test some "good drivers" for Windows XP later, like 175.80.

Battery wise it lasts just over 3 hours for surfing and office typing (continuous) , setting screen to 30% (LED) - 6 cell, over 3:30 if minimum screen brightness. Wireless on.
