Well then, here's my comment. Your way of communicating is phenomenal. First of all, communication starts with the language you are communicating with. And your mastery in the English language (which I would assume is not native to you, though still somewhat familiar in Germany) is more than sufficient to convey whatever message(s) you plan on communicating.
Second, when you make a point or explain something, you do not make a fallacy in assuming that the recipient of your wisdom would already know everything related to what you are speaking of, and you go into comprehensive details to ensure that when reading your post, they will have an understanding of both your logic and your statement.
Third, your way of communicating is positive and sincere. It is directed towards whomever may heed your advice. Naturally, your advice is taken at the risk of the person heeding it, and you make that perfectly clear. But, you still contribute your expertise to this pool of knowledge we call forums, so that all may benefit and none are harmed.

So, for your style of communicating, and its effect, I personally thank you. Perhaps others *cough* might follow suit and adhere to the goal of this forum, which is to provide a positive atmosphere where people may learn and receive help for whatever technologically-related problem ails them.

Ah come on Weegie, he's just trying to help like most of us here!

On the issue of cleaning lcd's i agree that it largely depends on where you are, even if you have drinking water on tap there's still a big difference between hard and soft water. Where i am the water is a bit hard which means it holds quite a bit of calcium, which will leave streaks. And, i agree i'd rather use something with a bit of active cleaning power so i don't have to rub the greasier spot but just put the stuff on and wipe it off with one wipe.

I think it's good that people give different kind of advice and maybe not commenting too much on others' advice but rather supporting our own would make sense. Weegie has been VERY helpful here for as long as i've been a member and the same goes for Christoph when he joined...we can always have different opinions on stuff guys ;)

Obviously not enough looking at the completely irrelevant link's you posted,I mean come on,a phone being submerged in water?,a fish tank with build up?,your first link is broken btw.
If you go looking at manufacturer recommendation's for display cleaning, you will be scratching to find one saying water is satan, there are a couple that say not to use antistatic solution or to use "only water" though.

    I assure you I'm not aroused,I can't speak for lw4pm2jm though,he/she seem's pretty taken with you.;)

I never said that you said you know everything,I said you act like you know everything, and telling someone that their preference for water is "just stupid" is actually pretty darned stupid in itself when it is a more universally supported method [by the manufacturer's]than the product you were trying to pimp.

    Lol.

I'm sorry, I don't get what's so completely irrelevant about them, could you explain?
No it's not...? Please tell me if I'm wrong.
I'm aware of the fact that for example NEC suggests to not use any cleaning solution at all. However, that seems to be due to the fact that many cleaning solutions contain alcohol. Also, that's why I said that I'm using Ronol instead of just saying "get a cleaning solution" - I know that it's authenticated by multiple screen vendors, including NEC for example, and so far I have not heard of it ever having caused problems.

I don't care If you call me stupid, but keep other people out of it!

Sorry, as you can see, I never told anyone that their preference for water is just stupid in general:
All I said was that my opinion is:
...and it is, isn't it? Whatever that cleaning solution might be:
If you paid about 200$ or more (maybe much more, depending on where you live) on a screen upgrade (let alone all those really expensive external monitors out there), you better make sure that your (routinely) cleaning procedure doesn't harm your screen. And it's common sense (ahem!) that in some areas tap water contains more lime than in others, so you just can't generally suggest that for expensive screens as it can build up residue slowly. You may not recognize it until you either see a side-by-side comparison with a new screen or until it's too late - I guess no one who bought an expensive screen will want that. And in case you still don't believe that it's possible that this can actually happen, I highly suggest you to read the links I provided in my earlier post. I'm not even talking about the risks resulting from the increased physical stress now. Again, that something is good for one person doesn't mean it's good for everyone. I may be wrong, but in my opinion, risking all this is not worth saving a fraction of the amount of money you spent on your screen upgrade, and even less if you looked at the total price of just the screen.

I'm in doubt I will continue to be willing to keep discussing with you if you keep behaving unconstructive. Why don't you point out some facts to try to convince?

Are we really having a discussion like this in the Owner's Lounge? If you guys want to continue please start a new thread about it as it involves ALL laptops and would only fill up this thread with a general, non-m4400 related issue. With respect to both..

Sorry if I'm interrupting a heated debate, but I'm about to purchase a refurbished Precision m4400 from Dell Outlet (there's a 15% off coupon for this week!). This is the model that I've found that is closest to my specifications, except for the ram being too low:

    EP9YZDZD
    Precision Mobile Workstation M4400 Laptop: Intel Core 2 Duo T9550 (2.66GHz, 6M L2 Cache, 1066MHZ) Dual Core
Genuine Windows XP Pro with Vista Business License
    $1,109.00
    2 GB DDR2 SDRAM 800MHz (2 DIMMs)
160 GB Free Fall Sensor Hard Drive (7200RPM)
    512MB NVIDIA Quadro FX 770M

8X DVD +/- RW w/dbl layer write capability
Windows Live, 32BIT Operating System CD, NO Intel vPro Secure Advanced Hardware Enabled Systems Management
    130W A/C Adapter, 3P
    Bezel
    9 Cell Primary Battery
    125V Power Cord
    No Fingerprint Reader
15.4 inch UltraSharp WUXGA (1920x1200) CCFL Laptop Screen
Dell 1397 802.11B/G Wireless Mini Card

So I would be trying to upgrade the RAM to 4GB. This site: http://www.memory-up.com/memory/DellPrecisionLaptop8842.html Appears to have some of the cheapest RAM from what I've seen. But I need to make sure that the laptop that I'm purchasing has an open slot so I can get a 2gb ram stick from the site, or would I need a super expensive 4gb ram stick? I really just need to achieve 4gb ram, but if it will cost more than $100 to do this then I'd be better up with a different refurbished m4400. Thank you for your time!

This means that the laptop has 2 slots for RAM, each of them holding 1 GB of RAM. In other words, you would have to buy two new DIMMs of 2 GB each to get 4 GB of RAM.

What you are looking for is something like

    2 GB DDR2 SDRAM 800MHz (1 DIMM)

So the RAM on this site http://www.memory-up.com/memory/DellPrecisionLaptop8842.html is not 1 DIMM? :( Sorry for the denseness on my part.

EDIT: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220338 This would work? I know nothing about RAM types and compatability between laptops :(
