I got my M4400 today and it's a beautiful machine! I love the LCD lid and on the whole, the laptop appears to be solidly built. But, unfortunately, I got one of the grainy LPL displays :(. I'm going to contact Dell and see if they can hook me up with the SEC panel. I think my laptop also has some degree of keyboard flex and I wanted to ask if Dell can fix this without sending me a new laptop all together.

By the way, I ran a quick 3DMark06 test at 1280x800 (all default options) and it returned 6027 3DMarks.

:( Tech support came by today with the new screen. They were supposed to bring two so i could choose which one liked but only brought one. Reason was that the screens were out of stock, fair enough. But now i have the same samsung screen (SEC5443) which looks just as bad!!

@Maartenlameris. Ook nederlands zie ik ;) You're probably getting the same screen, please tell me how yours looks.

I have a bright (light leaking) bar at the bottom of the screen and a brighter part at the top. In between are dark and darker spots. Kind of smog coloured ;) Tech support says it's not defective but did agree with what i said i saw wrong with it. This is not why i payed extra for the best sreen the offered at that time. Especially the lighting should be very even with the dual ccfl...not give me 2 bright bars iso 1. I really, really hope i can make the deal to swap this for the RGB LED when it's available.

The PCMCIA problem. Tech guy couldn't find anything, called Dell and they said it was probably down to a driver issue of my PCMCIA card...NOT the adapter. Thing is that i tried 3 different cards, 2 audio cards and a firewire card that was automatically found and installed by Vista and they all work fine!! So...not really any driver issues. They just disable my Intel WiFi 5300 card, every one of them. So the problem has to be in either the PCMCIA adapter or the Intel WiFi card, both installed and supported by Dell.
Will go into this further with them tomorrow.

All in all...if i can't get the RGBLED screen or they won't support the PCMCIA problem, writing it off as a problem with the external hardware, either one is a deal-breaker. Then i'll have to change too a HP 8530w after all!! But i really don't want to...I love the rest of the machine and how it looks, feels :(

when does the hurting stoooooop :p LOL

That sucks @LTP-LVR. It's strange how different brand screens are bad for different resolutions. The Samsung is supposed to be the good one for the LED option, but it looks like for WUXGA, the Samsung is bad.

Yeah that's exactly what i thought. Also the reason why i specifically asked for the Philips LG model. I hope i can get everything sorted with them

btw, did anyone try their PCMCIA card? If not, please do...i really want to know if i'm the only one with this.

Well, I probably hold the record for being an M4400 owner for the shortest period of time! :D

I called up Dell and they couldn't guarantee a Samsung as a replacement. Add to that the keyboard flex problem, and I just decided to return the laptop. It's quite appalling that a workstation-class laptop has a grainy display.

Well, too bad. I really liked this laptop too. The overall design and the wavy lid were top-notch. I didn't load too much stuff on the laptop, so should I just uninstall whatever apps I installed before returning?

My other option was the HP Elitebook 8530w, but it costs more than a similarly configured M4400 and I haven't seen any reviews or user opinions on it yet. Looks like I'm in for some more waiting.

That was my other option aswell....why not try the same deal as i'm looking to get, hold on to this screen untill the RGBLED is available? For the +price compared to you original config ofcourse ;)
