Good stuff mate, thats what I'd do as well.

You should have a satisfaction period with any dell,so 3 strikes before return shouldn't count with a new notebook that you are not satisfied with.......I returned my first XPS M1730 25 days after I recieved it and got every cent back.

Had a WUXGA on an M60,it was awesome for using my mcad software, but I absolutely hated it for anything else, bumping the DPI up to 150% seemed to destroy the clarity of the text and web pages had a bit of trouble also,so ever since,I've gone for WSXGA on 15's,which is still my favourite except with the M4400 isn't an option.....the WXGA+ is still preferrable to the WUXGA for me.

I'm definitely into a review by yourself if you have the time/motivation.

On a side note about the AS5 thermal paste....seems to have dropped the max temp in games about 3 deg so far,I expect a bit more over a longer period, but has had the nice effect of making the fan spin at 4000rpm instead of the maximum 5000 rpm it was before.....a fair bit quieter......I do jack the back of mine up when gaming with a pack of cards under the battery as there's not much room for airflow as it is.
I'm pretty keen on one of those magnesium coolslice things, but only seem to able to find them listed for the vostro and 14" latitude/precision?

Nice... I might put some Arctic Silver in it myself once I get a laptop that's got a suitable screen :) And yes, the coolslice seems to be only for Vostros, and only a few of them at that. Also if the 1700M is out when I reorder the system I might get that too... maybe :) I have a feeling putting a overclocked 9700M equivalent in a 15 inch will get pretty darn hot... Then again nVidia still classes it as a mid-class gfx card, so maybe it isn't really up there with the 2700M and 3700M. Although I have to say the M4400 didn't get hot while playing games on it... A little warmer of course though :)

Weegie... how complicated is it to put the AS5? in my recent experience checking the thermal pads on a 7800gtx, i notice that they are quite thick... appx 2~3mm thick and they get pressed down as you can see from the marks left on the pads... but the pressure is not consistent and i notice certain areas the thermal pads barely left an impression...

wondering if it is the same on M4400? is it thermal pad strips or thermal putty type (as used on evga motherboards)

have any pics of this process?

    thanks

how did you manage to get it to make contact after removing the pads? wouldnt there be a gap?

hence my question to weegie... it seems from his post that they used thermal putty instead of thermal pads and was wondering myself...

my graphic card venture, i just replaced the thermal pad... i did not think AS5 will have done the job.. not enough pressure on the contacts.

i cant remember which model it was on, but somebody modded his vostro with as5 and it couldnt make contact. he then solved the issue by adding a copper plate of some sort...
