That's what I'm going to do. I didn't want to return it because it would mean another month downtime. But now that I have the part numbers I can be sure of what not to get when I reorder. :) The rep said he would look into the screen issue, since I was the first to report problems with that particular model screen. But as long as they have that screen for LED I can't use it to do work on... just too distracting. And yes, it does seem a convenient time to run out of the Samsungs, since you and I♥RAM both managed to get that model. I might try wait out the 2-CCFL when they become available or possibly go higher resolution? 1920x1200 seems a bit hard on the eyes for a 15 inch... what do you think? For 17 inch I would agree, but 15 inch?
I think the rep might be truthful though, sounded fairly genuine and sure of himself on the phone, and since he arranged for the return and refund as well, which had to be approved by through a collaboration with Dell Technical Support and the Sales Consultant who served me, neither of whom probably want a returned machine. You normally need THREE (3) defective parts that need to be replaced to qualify for a refund, but I managed to get it after complaining that it was their fault for giving out that particular model, and the same model for replacements when it was being repaired. Anyway I got a weekend or so to play with the machine for free I guess! :)

Oh yea, I also discovered that there is a Windows Vista authenticity certificate underneath the battery. Neat place to put it eh? :)

On a site note also, would anyone want me to do a peer review of the M4400? I reckon I have some spare time this weekend to pull it off.

I have an LED screen, as does a few other people here. Read this thread to see some problems you might experience, and what you can expect.

The RGBLED (at 1920x1200) is different from the WLED on the 1440x900 screens and is not currently offered - at least not in the US.

well, in all honesty, i'm stuck on 1920x1200... i know it's a bit small on the icons and buttons but i'm at a point where i know where my buttons are and what they do... gaming and even in work... so i like the option of seeing a wider scope of things... just my $0.02

oh please... LOTs and LOTs of pics please!!! i'm quite anxious...
it's been only 2 days from my order and i'm going nutz...
hopefully they'll ship earlier... like the Studio 17 that was supposed to be cancelled but got shipped in 6 days upon ordering... that's 10 days ahead of ESD...

dang... why dont you talk to a sales agent and order another system and in meantime tell him that you will return the current for refund when the other is shipped. try to minimize the downtime... will it work?

i've spoken to my rep and he tells me the 1920x1200 2ccfl is matte screen also... well, i'm really anxious and curious to see...

give us lots of pics... lots of pics... lots of pics... for some reason.. i really like this "no-nonsense" kinda look...

maybe it's from years of carrying this heavy glossy 17" 13lbs folding desktop...

Finally! I received my M4400 a few hours gao and it looks and feels great - much better than the M4300.

I checked my monitor and mine has the ID: AUO8074. What manufacturer is that? Does anyone know? Thanks

An ID starting with AUO should indicate the manufacturer is AU Optronics, I think...

@Enduct, please do a review, I don't think I'm going to have the time :(. I wanted to review but I'll start my own little thread for a mini-review (I'll be providing ~20 quality pictures) and my own little thoughts about every aspect of the system for everyone when I get it ready ... and of course benchmarks for everything I can. Mine is still in the box, going to use it tomorrow, hopefully. Just have no time to do a full written review.

@cpnt: Isn't a good screen up to you to figure out?

And another thing, 1440 x 900 is extremely sharp on this monitor. The icons are tiny, the text on IE is super-small, but crisp as heck. 1900 x 1200 would be ridiculous for me and I have good eyes. Just doesn't seem right for a 15"...
