Ram, do some quick tests with some games as well and take the temp when you can.

 

The outside rippled lid is definitely alloy,all the insides are plastic inc palmrest and screen bezel.Bottom plate and other bits underneath are alloy as well.

What type of engineering are you doing at school?


Pulled mine apart tonight and removed the heatsinks etc,dell put a lot of their hard goop all over everything,the video memory chips are cooled by the heatsink as well,but use the blue wax pads [two of which were not touching the heatsink out of the four]
I removed their huge amount of hard thermal paste and put on AS5 on the GPU,CPU,and the two blue pads that were not touching [don't know if that will help,but we'll see]
I'm interested to see if any of this will reduce the max temp [84 deg C] when gaming,but will probably need a few days for the thermal compound to settle.
I haven't had any downclocking issues with mine so far but I'm curious as to whether Dell will use the same cooling for the FX 1700M being that its overclocked and probably overvolted also.

It surprises me that they give the cpu soo much more radiator cooling area compared to the much hotter running GPU,also the heat pipe is much larger for the cpu,but I guess they have to consider the extreme cpu thermal req which from what I've seen on other notebooks,can run stinking hot,compared to my lowly P8600.

The temps of a model spec'd with the extreme cpu and FX 1700M will be interesting though,as the air is first blown through the cpu radiator and then through the GPU one....so a much hotter processor will equal much hotter air passing through the GPU cooler which will also being trying to cool a hotter running 1700M......they will need to do something different,otherwise it'll be a lap stove.

I Hope OpenGL in 3D application make the GPU colder than in Games with DirectX !!!!! Shall i have to pray for expecting this task? Or i already dead : this laptop can't work hard (95% CPU usage and 95% GPU openGL usage) for 6hours ?

Isn't it a professional hi performance lapstop ? Don't tell me High performance doesn't mean 'long time' !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

The M4400 should not be throttling after 20 minutes of graphics intensive use. I checked with our Engineering team and they ran BioShock without seeing this issue. If you continue to see this problem I'd suggest you contact tech support.

anyone have Poser (3D application) on his M4400 ?

 

Got the Samsung SEC5442. Is that good? So far, its not grainy at all. It's so sharp I can't even see any lines...I tried every perspective. On my desktop LCD I see them clearly but not on this one.

@cpaek: should be testing it this weekend.

@Weegie: Electrical & Mechanical w/ Comp. Sci.

@dman100: How long did they run bioshock for? Not real results if you guys didn't actually play like users play.

Apparently the Samsungs are the good screens this time, and the LG are the bad ones. Dell rep has told me they have no more SEC5442/3 screens so I don't really know what to do, and it appears they won't reorder them either, appearing to stick with the bad quality LGs. I don't understand them at all... I think I will get a refund over this unfortunately. Or at least until I can guarantee that they have them in stock. I am not settling for LG because it makes my eyes go funny and hard to concentrate on the screen.

 

Thats a real pity Enduct.......I guess if your not happy,there's really no choice but to return it....I really do wonder if your rep is being truthful though,or whether it is just a bit "too hard for him" to arrange the samsung replacement.....seems very convenient to me that they have no more and none are on order.

I think I would try reordering and returning that one.
