i really think the most they would do is offer you a refund. they did falsely advertise their product, but its not like they can offer you a GT if they no longer have them. . .

even though this has probably happened to many people around the world, too many of them timidly think being polite and docile to Dell will somehow remedy the situation as opposed to holding them accountable.

enjoy getting eff'd in the ass because if you don't threaten Dell, you deserve it.

    ILLEGITIMI NON CARBORUNDUM

(Don't let the bastards grind you down)

Persist and you'll either get compensation or your money back. I've just remembered reading about Dell having to replace keyboards on Vostros that had been sent out with the wrong ones so they to fix problems.... Eventually.

I haven't seen much about this problem on other sites yet, though the Dell Vostro Wikipedia page has a note about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dell_Vostro

Well I asked Dell UK today for an update and the customer support has escallated the issue. that was 6 days ago: "I was informed by the customer Care team that they are looking into it and will be looking into this issue.

I guess they have not contacted you I will follow it up them again and update you. Sorry for the inconvenience."

So guess I will see. I have asked for a huge refund or a proper graphics card.I told them I have checked the hardware and it is a GS- Therefore they didnt tell me its driver issue.

Hi, just come across this thread, very interesting. When I bought my notebook (in sig) I researched it on the net 1st and discovered it had an 8600GT video card. So I went into the store (Comet UK) and just before I bought it I had a look at it in the flesh on the display. The 1st thing I noticed was the sticker in the bottom right corner with the spec of the notebook. It said 8600GS! I said to the manager "this notebook is supposed to have a Nvidia 8600 GT card inside, according to your website" the guy said that there are that many variations of that model, make sure you check the complete model number (about 10 - 15 numbers and letters).
I bought the notebook anyway because it was £100 cheaper than anywhere else at the time, even on the net. Got it home, everything was fine until about 2 months later, when I decided to play a HD movie in my player. ****, I only had a standard DVD player/writer lol.
So I was cheated on the DVD drive and not the Video card.
I took it back and they replaced it, no hassle. I checked the new model numbers and they were just slightly different, but seriously you must check and double check before you buy.
I know that buying on the net is not the same because you dont actually see the thing in the flesh, I may have fallen into the same trap if I hadn't bought in the shop. I got the HD-DVD drive that I paid for in the end, but what if I had found out after the warranty had expired?
