After ten thousand phone calls, my notebook was finally delivered.

I customized my Vostro with the 256MB 8600M GT. The invoice says 8600M GT.

The device manager is saying its the 8600M GS.

Have Dell installed the wrong video card in my notebook??

If I have to send this back I'm going to crack

If device manager is saying 8600M GS...then i think thats wat u got. Check the other specs, such as clocks (rivatuner will do) and memory (i forgot if the GS also has 256MB) uggh.... dell and their issues...

Thanks for the link but there is no conclusive answer in that thread. the last page has someone saying it sounds like its a GS.
I'll be calling Dell tomorrow. If its meant to be a GT then it should damn well show as a GT otherwise how else do us customers know we didnt pay for a more expensive card and got dumped with a cheaper one? Maybe Dell think we are all stupid and wouldn't check??
I dont know how difficult it is to build a laptop to specifications, they must have some real idiots working at dell.

as mentioned earlier, device manager will tell you what you really have.

i guess you can't blame shipping for this one and LOL! sorry but you're right you have to laugh at this because the alternative is breaking your hand when you punch a wall out of frustration at Dell's enormous eff up.

and seeing as the SAME thing happened in the other thread it is becoming more obvious why Dell doesn't deserve the market share it has today and the reason why it's fast becoming a loser.

but hey why don't you console yourself in the fact that you'll be forced to enjoy MORE of Dell's awesome wonderful customer service!

    yay!

I'll be blasting them on the phone first thing tomorrow morning. And I wont be sending it back, I dont want it getting banged, scratched, dropped, thrown around and perhaps returned 4 weeks later if Im lucky. no thanks. They can come to my door with a replacement and swap it.

I cant even get 3dmark to load, it says loading interface for 10 minutes and nothing happens.

I will try GPU-Z. How many stream processors should there be?

And I thoroughly agree about Dell. If I had known how incompotent they were I would have NOT bought this notebook. I can't imagine any other company being this bad.
