    GS shows there too.
I have not a doubt in the world I, along with many other new Vostro owners, have the GS instead of the GT despite Dell refusing to admit it. We all need to call them tomorrow and DEMAND, not ask, for an immediate replacement (plus compensation!).

I know I do, the point is what will the idiots do about it.
This is why buying online is a bad idea. If I bought a notebook from a store I'd take it back to them and they'd deal with it.
Then again any other company would probably be better to deal with than Dell from Hell.

If I were you, I'd ask for some SERIOUS compensation. I think its pretty obvious they are trying to short you something. I didn't even know dell offered a GS. All I ever see is the 8600 GT.

Within 21 days of placing your order, call Dell and said you are returning the 1710 and give them the reason. Dell will send you a return sticker, pack the whole thing up and call DHL to pick it up at your door or a DHL center near you, thats it, and be done with it!

I have one piece of advice, keep calling and calling and calling some more...when I ordered my XPS M1730, I ordered it with 2 x 8700m video cards, however, when they shipped it to me I got 1 x 8700m, at first when I called em, they refused to acknowledge their error, but after call after call after call...and calling pretty much non-stop how they cheated me etc. They finally fixed it, but instead of giving me 2x8700s they gave me 2x8800m gtx...score!

It might be a GS, but run 3D mark or a known benchmark and compare the results against GT scores. Because the other GS owner (having a similar thread to this) is getting DDR2 GT performance (which is what you'll get with an inspiron anyway) due to having faster DDR3 memory on the GS. Therefore after all you may not be losing out on anything because of the model number….

I’m not making up excuses for DELL nor telling the OP to stick with what he got. By all means, if the OP feels that he was cheated of performance or money then he should get a replacement. I'm just pointing out that there might not be a performance difference between the two. Which is what we should be concerned here, not the model number.

If all we care is the model number, then what if instead of getting a 8600 GT, he actually got a 8700GS/GT (hypothetically speaking, since Inspirons don't have 8700s) by mistake ? will you tell him to return it too ? After all, its not what was in the invoice and it is a mistake ??
