If the value of the product we received is less than that which we paid for, we are entitled to a swap/refund/compensation.

If they had put something more expensive in the machine then I'd be laughing, about time Dell got ripped off. That's not gonna happen though is it.

Toryglen-boy - you're in Australia and thats where it seems to be happening. We all ordered Vostro's but with the same free upgrade story. If you have a friendly delivery man, ask him to wait a second whilst you check the specs in Device Manager...

    could've fooled me.

what is your point? whether Dell accidentally ships a customer an inferior or superior card doesn't change the fact it's THEIR responsibility to have shipped the correct item advertised and sold.

are you trying to seriously convince anyone that just because it could hypothetically work in the customers favour in your example, that it somehow exonerates Dell for effing up?

    Ok, lets cool down…

I don’t want to get in to an argument…

@only : Why do you always assume that I’m defending DELL ? Just because I’m not screaming RETURN or SUE DELL, doesn’t mean I condone their mistake. All I’m trying to see is whether or not he actually got a rotten deal (purely in terms of performance)…. That’s all….

Afterall, returning and getting an actual 8600M GT (DDR2), may not make any difference at all (performance wise)... it may very well end up being an inconvenience to the OP. This kind of a return can sometimes take weeks and what if something else goes wrong during the return (perhaps they again send the same thing or worse). Whats the point of putting the OP through all that if there is no difference ?

    Dell just called me back.

He said there is no more GT, its being phased out by nVidia (??). I'm skeptical about that.

But he said it was a mistake and they are in the process of correcting the website now.
He said this GS card is very similar to the GT and its what is going in their systems in this range.... so what could I do, not much.

Yes I am angry that they do not know how to list specs on their website properly (and it is still listed as GT), but as PhoenixFx said, sending the laptop back would be a huge inconvenience to me anyway as I need it for work.
I also can not quite afford to legally compete with Dell in court... looks like we/I just have to accept the GS.

The guy who just ordered the Inspiron - I don't know if this also applies to the Inspirion but going by my convo on the phone just then, you'll probably get the GS too.

heres something interesting to point out...

    dell us sells the vostro 1710 with a 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8600M GT (128 bit) that is a $150 upgrade (over intel`s integrated)

    dell canada sell the vostro 1710 with a 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8600M GS (128 bit) that is a $199 upgrade (over intel`s integrated)

i pretty sure ordering from either site gives you the same computer, made from the same place (malaysia or china), shipped initially to the same city (Nashville), then gets distributed across north america.

You paid for a GT and a GT was what was listed in your invoice. They are legally responsible to provide you with a GT.

Or provide him with a refund.

He won't ge a GT. He can persue it and get like a $50 Dell Credit, or get his money back.
