yea, the EE processors are really pricey, the price my rep quoted for the quad core was more than half the price of my notebook!

i wonder if its possible to pick one up on ebay or something...

It's the temperatures not clocks that should be considered for safe long term use. I prefer < 70 deg C as safe.

eBay has EE procs but beware ES procs. Engineering samples shouldn't be used, I believe TechARP had a good article explaining why...

i know, i've seen threads on ppl who bought es processors and regretted it.

i wont be buying a new processor anytime soon though, will wait till its cheap enough and more apps make use of quad core.

Is it confirmed that users owning a dual core M4400 can manually upgrade to a quad core processor in the future (warranty issues aside)? There was originally some talk about the quad cores having a slightly different pin-out, and hence requiring a different motherboard.

It certainly seems unlikely there are two different motherboards for the M4400, one supporting quad cores (and dual cores) and the other not, but I'd definitely like to hear confirmation on this.

no, the mobo's are the same, but there appear to be some minor differences in cooling (unconfirmed, based on pics of users disassembling units, not too clear)

I had both and it's the same cooling on both the 2 and the 4 cores. There it's confermed now :) same fan and heatsink.stecker # CN-0F727D-72444-890-00K0-A00.

and # on metal part is: AT000003BV0
