    Hey guys,

Thought this might be a fun thread to start, as some people have tried overclocking. Would like to start of by asking, what tools are being used?

Considering there is another thread saying that at stock values when loaded, the cooling system cannot handle the load and downclocks, I don't think OCing is viable at the moment.

its a software issue, not a cooling issue. plus if you look at the fx1700 review thread you will find people have overclocked the fx770

also, with a 35w tdp processor and the fx770....if it cant take that heat, how can it support a quad 45w tdp processor together with a fx1700?

its definitely viable. and its been done :p

Sorry, I didn't see that when I read the "M4400 downclocks" thread but there were a few results from the "FX 1700M reviewed" one. Between the 50W from the FX1700M and the 45W from the QX CPU, it still seems like there would be limited overhead capacity as the system produces quite a bit of heat. I still believe that the cooling system and not the software would be the limiting factor when loading the system.

Not all the systems overheat, mine for example has been overclocked over 200 points per slider and still remains under 85C. OCing is perfectly viable if your system is not one of the defected ones Dell has been sending out.

I used nTune for XP but people say use nVidia System Tools since its newer.

I♥RAM, how is your system doing w/ the locking up? What do you think the rate of laptops w/ defective cooling is?

My old M4400 still locks up, but for some odd reason it happens once every 3-5 days now as opposed to before when it happened a few times in 10 minutes.

My new M4400 is currently being tested for lockups, nothing so far.

I cannot guess on the rate of laptops w/ defective cooling: many people say the internal cooling system is not sufficient for the GPU and many report the BIOS is the real issue. It's a software/hardware problem, but my old M4400 is perfect on terms of heating maintanence. Hopefully the new one doesnt let me down.

Edit: I would also be very interested in overclocking my T9400 CPU to ~3.0GHz, since I've had nothing but luck heat-wise.
