That is what I told the tech a few weeks ago. Actually I told him to send me the bottom panel, I would take all of the screws out and send it back rather than replace mine.

I would just be happy if they could tell me the thread size so that I can go buy a small box of them. I would prefer to not get the captive screws that they used. If I was sticking with captive screws I would get with ones with a taller head as the combination of a short head and captive screw shaft is the root cause of my failures. Otherwise I would just go with a standard screw. Yes, they would come out when you removed the bottom tray but that is better than breaking.

Can anyone confirm that the screws do come as part of the bottom cover?

So I am pretty sure that they are M2 x 6mm 0.4 thread pitch wafer head captive screws. I found some non captive on line and ordered some.

When Dell replied to my send the cover (rather than have an on site tech bring it out) so I can remove the screws and return it request, they said that the technician would have to bring because the screws were not part of the cover. . . My response was

"So someone at Dell knows how to get the screws. Why can't they just put some in an envelope and mail them to me?"

The local technician failed at two mother board installations on another laptop. Future repairs on my laptops will be done at the depot.

Did the new base cover come with the captive screws in place?

    Hello everyone,

Unfortunately I have serious issues with my 7470... More specifically, I have noticed that the laptop freezes frequently and I have to hard reset it otherwise it does not respond. This usually happens when I move the laptop or even when I open/close the lid.
At first, I though it had to do with a corrupt driver so I reset Windows 10. After a few hours of usage, I got a BSOD. I had also noticed that sometimes, instead of getting a BSOD (which everytime came with different errors), the latpop could show a black screen or even broken graphics.
After getting a BSOD with the fresh Windows 10 install, I formatted the disk and installed Windows 7. Same result... I grabbed the laptop and got a black screen...

What could possible be causing all this mess?
Disk shows 100% health/performance, RAM passes every test with no errors. BIOS/Drivers are the latest available, either by Intel or by Dell.
Any recommendations? I'd like to try every possible solution before calling Dell support.

Have you done an overnight run of Memtest86 loaded from a flash drive? It once identified bad RAM (after about 8 hours of testing) as the cause of some BSODs I was getting when the Dell diagnostics reckoned the RAM was OK.

    Hi John,
No I haven't done a overnight test... But I will soon and post the results. Hopefully it's just the RAM.

No memory errors after an overnight memtest...
It seems that I'll have to contact Dell, but I'm pretty sure that since I can't even replicate the issue, they're going to say that nothing's wrong....

If you talk Dell support through the problem and what you have done to try to identify the cause then they might agree to the next step (a mainboard swap?).

I just got another BSOD (attached below) when I moved the laptop from my legs and placed it on my desk...

Since the whole issue was caused when moving the laptop (not every time though) I decided to open the laptop to see what's going on iside it, in case this mess was created by something that wasn't properly installed. In the past, I had only opened it once in order for replacing the RAM modules.
I noticed that indeed there was something wrong. As seen in the picture below, a small piece of metal was broken (?).... I removed it, even though I don't even what its purpose is. I will install a fresh copy of Windows 10 with Dell's drivers and wait to see the laptop's behavior.

Any bit of loose metal in the vicinity of electronics is bad news. That could well be the cause of your problems.
