What John said about metal rattling around. You are lucky that it did not fry some power electronics.

I have a picture of my computer in my phone and I zoomed in to see that the pin is a retainer/alignment pin for the battery. Are you missing the bottom cover screw in the middle next to the service tag? Between the two of them they retain the battery if you have the 42 W-hr battery that is it for that end. Oh and looking closely at your photo it looks like the screw is attached to the bracket that is over the ram connectors and not into the base plate (where the pin came from). Thus with a drop the ram plate would bend and the pin could snap.

Did you buy an "I break it you fix it warranty?" If so call Dell and tell them that the pin failed. Not sure what they will do about it as that looks like it is part of the main frame for the laptop. If you can afford the time without it, I would use the send it to a depot for repair option as the local repair guys seem to screw up replacing mother boards on a regular basis (HP problem a few years ago 3 tries to get everything working, Dell this past winter two tries before I gave up and they sent me a new laptop.)

BTW from an earlier, maybe related thread, I ended up buying some m2 x 6 mm waffle head screws to replace two that broke on my bottom cover. I got them from Laptopscrews.com They were not captive screws but they worked good enough. I just made sure that the bottom was pressed down well when I put the screws in.

    Hello everyone,

Reporting back about the issue I had. As I said above. I opened the laptop and found out this little metal pin... After removing it I also did a fresh install of Windows 10 x64 (v1703). I don't know if it was the metal pin or the fact that I cleared the laptop (which didn't have any dust), but since then I haven't experienced any freezes or BSODs. I hope it will continue to be like that in the future...

    Hello guys,
Can you please help me with this:
Is latitude e7470 i5 6300 etc with 1080p nonTS good for editing photos?
Can you explain to me is that the ips display? How can I check it out? I read that qhd displays are ips, but I can't find that info for 1080hd.
The same Q is for integrated graphics? Is it good for editing in photoshop and lightroom?
I like this laptop and the price is very tempting (around 600e).

    Thanks for your answers.
And excuse my bad English. :)

    Hi there,

Does anyone knows when Dell will stop selling the Latitude e7470 since its replacement (e7480) is already on the market?

    Thx.

Would one of the notebook screw multi-packs which you can buy from China on ebay have something the right size and leave with a bag of useful screws for less than Dell would charge for two screws?

I spent about 2 months dealing with Dell. I have an "I break it they fix it warranty" The poor support techs tried and tried but the parts are not documented well. They sent me the standard pack and none that were the correct diameter were long enough. The second pack was all the correct size but only 4mm long.

This is what I found that worked.

M2x6mm wave head machine screws #10009

Unfortunately they do not carry the captive screws but these are at least the correct size and head type.
