Wanted to start a thread for Dell Latitude 7470 owners. No one has bought this yet? :)

Curious if I buy one with an M.2 SATA SSD if that can upgrade to a PCI-e SSD. They sell the 7470 with either option on the Dell Premiere configurator. I tend to wait until they show up in the Outlet and use a coupon, but have a feeling all the ones that end up in the Outlet will be SATA and I really want PCI-e!

I have been studying the E7470 manual. Page 12 indicates two separate M.2 slots with SATA being on the right side and PCEe being near the left side. Page 32 (BIOS options) states:
Allows you to configure the SATA drives on board. All drives are enabled by default. The options are:
    • SATA-1
    • M.2 PCI-e SSD-0
    • SATA-2

This implies that the two SSDs can be installed concurrently. However, the boot sequence description (page 31) does not differentiate between the two types of SSD but that may be because the text is generic (page 43 mentions mSATA!).

In spite of the possibility of having two SSDs, I won't be queuing up for this notebook. I relish the quiet fan on my dGPU E7450 and it looks like the E7470 has the basic, noisier, fan (as on the E7440 and E7450).

I'm interested in the Latitude 7470 since my new XPS 9550 died 3 times in a month.

I'm still trying to figure out if the M.2 PCIe port is compatible with the 4 cells battery wich must be larger than the one we can see in the owner manuals pictures.
    Any information on this ?

Good point about the battery overlapping with the PCIe slot. Page 53 of the manual gives the length of the 3 cell as 181mm and the 4 cell as 238mm. PCIe SSD + 4 cell battery will only work if the SSD sits under the battery. This would be a squeeze, particularly since that SSD has a bracket (it looks more like a heat sink).

Based on what I have seen when I configure the machine though Dell Premiere, you should be able to have a PCIe SSD + 4 cell battery.....since that is exactly what I would get. Configured it a few times hoping the price would go down, but what I want ends up being around 1900. Waiting for some to show up in the Outlet. As long as I can get the processor, FHD non-touch screen, WiFi card, and fingerprint reader.....I can piece together the memory and SSD from Amazon/eBay/etc. They are just not at the Outlet yet. Hopefully soon.

The fan on my 7450 has never bothered me. It kicks in sometimes, but that is only when Firefox or Outlook is being stupid and uses a lot of CPU. Close/open and the fan calms down. I work in a lot of quiet offices too....never an issue. I have the integrated graphics....never had a need for a dGPU.

2 DIMM slots + i#-6XXX processor = you can use 32gb unless Dell took active steps to disable more memory in the BIOS. If they did on the 7470, it would literally be the first Latitude I've heard of them doing on it.

Dell doesn't just officially support it (just like on the old Sandy Bridge ones with "supported maximum 8gb" which did fine with 16gb.

Just buy it with the minimum 4gb and make sure you keep your original memory to swap in if you need to get a service call with your upgraded RAM in. :)

I don't need the dGPU but the better fan (provided because of the dGPU) is definitely quieter. I suspect that my room at home is significantly quieter than a quiet office and the fan noise of my former E7440 was noticeable. The normal E7450 is the same because one of my friends bought one and he (also doing a lot of home working these days) has commented on the fan noise.

Notebookcheck have published a review of the E7470 with QHD touchscreen.

The review is very positive about the fan noise but also reveals that the battery performance is worse than the E7450. I wonder if the QHD touchscreen is a factor.
