Hi, I've just bought a refurbished e7470 and was wondering if there was any way to tell the battery cycle count or something else that would indicate the condition of the battery? I've been into battery info in dell support assist app. Thanks

I don't know of any software which can read the charge cycles on a recent Dell battery. Perhaps the battery doesn't store the data because how is a charge cycle defined? does a top-up from 80% to 100% count as a charge cycle or 20% of a charge cycle. Dell's default battery management setting (see the BIOS or Dell Power Manager" is "Adaptive". I don't know how it works but I haven't had rapid battery wear problems on recent Dell notebooks.

The number which best indicates battery health is the fully charged capacity which, in your case, is less than 2% below the designed capacity. One test to check the overall battery condition is to run the battery down under a constant workload (such as playing a video) and keeping a record of the elapsed time and the battery charge level (I use BatteryInfoView). The graph of time vs charge should be straight and , if it is not, the the fully charged capacity will probably change after this test.

Nope, a Dell touchpad settings window pops up for gesture controls.

That's quite surprising, mine is nearly silent.

I have to say I love this laptop. It's going to be my daily machine for years to come. Well worth the $430 I sunk into it. I can carry it around in my backpack without worrying it'll break ( although I keep it in a sleeve ), it's light and doesn't look bad at all. Unexpected bonus; it actually makes me feel pretty good having a computer at university that nobody else has.
The fact that the old docking stations still work is a huge bonus.
    I still can't believe I got an i7 6600u, 256GB SSD, 1080p LCD, 60WHR battery, 12GB of Ram for $430...

I didn't purchase it, I built it with Ebay parts.

That's very cool, I have considered it in the past and the sum of the parts mostly turned out more than what you could get on a good day on the Dell Outlet. Your rig does indeed, sound impressive.

Would love to hear more about how you started out.

I also broke two of the screws that hold the bottom pan on. Since I have a "I break it they fix it warranty" I called Dell and the poor tech can not find the parts anywhere. He sent me a screw kit but the longest one of that size is about 2 mm to short (6 mm overall length)

IMO they are a very poorly chosen part. Because the shaft is cut back (captive screw) so much there is almost no meat between the head of the screw and the shaft. I am an experienced guy working on this kind of stuff and they should not have broken.

Has anyone had any luck getting replacement screws for the bottom cover?

If they're captive screws, Dell probably considers the sub-assembly a single part number. Request a full bottom panel.
