    Hello!

I've noticed that keyboard's light turn on randomly, even when the laptop is idle and no one is around... Has anyone noticed that? I'd like to know what could cause this, cause calling a priest is my last option... :p

OS is Windows 10 Pro x64, and drivers/BIOS are fully updated.

The backlight is also triggered by touchpad / trackpoint activity. Does the trackpoint go through some periodic internal recalibration which the system reads as a movement?

    Hi John,

Before posting the above, I noticed that the laptop was on my desk with no one around and the backlight was on. So it don't think it's caused by a movement. Something else could be triggering it. I'll start by removing the keyboard driver from device manager and see how it goes... If I find a solution to this I'll get back here to report. :)

I also have the keyboard lights which randomly turn on. This happens all the time when using the laptop. I haven't been able to figure out why.

When watching movies, occasionally the keyboard lights turn on for no reason and it will interrupt the movie by bringing up the time bar and other options.

I am also using Win 10 pro 64 with all drivers and BIOS up to date. On a unrelated note, the latest touchpad driver doesn't seem to support 2-finger tap for right-click function anymore.

Howdy, I'm a proud owner of a just recently purchased from Dell E7470 Ultrabook. In the Box- 6th gen I7, Intel pro v, 16gb, running win 10 pro. I like it and it runs well but there isn't many programs included.

Thought I would jump right in on this thread and ask a couple of questions to fellow owners. I need a little help....
Is there any bloatware that maybe I don't see?
Antivirus installed is McAfee 30 day, although I can't seem to find it in the HD. What are you guys using for antivirus on win 10?
Which is the best external DVD player?

And I have a WD Passport Ultra that I backed up my win 7 stuff on and won't work on win 10 .Anyone have the fix?
Is there any programs like MS office you guys run that is cheaper?
    Any help would be awsome.

Dell don't load the Latitudes with lots of bloatware. However, it's probably best to show McAfee the door before it settles in and then wants money. Personally, I use NOD32 (but have a multi-seat licence which makes the price reasonable) but suggest you try one of the free AV packages (look at a few 2016 reviews of free anti virus then choose one).
I assume you mean the hardware in which case look for a DVD writer so you have disc burning capability for little extra cost. I suggest Samsung or Liteon (who aren't well known but make good optical drives).
Are you saying that the new computer won't read the WD HDD? That's unusual as my Windows 10 will happily read all my external hard drives (and some must be around 10 years old as well as the WD Passport Ultra I've just tried). Try a different cable and USB port. Note that you can use a micro USB cable with the USB 3 port on the HDD but it will only run at USB 2 speed).

Try out Libre Office as a free alternative to MS Office. If that doesn't offer enough then the home & student version of MS Office may meet your needs.

    John

Yeah, that's likely a software issue, it doesn't happen in Linux or a fresh install of windows with generic drivers. As soon as you install any kind of Dell touchpad drivers, it does this crap. Annoying yes, but nothing you can do about it unless Dell decides to fix it.

Input filtering of the touch point is not the best, it'll randomly move by 1 pixel on its own because it somehow perceived an input.

For those with fingerprint reader issues, there is a newer firmware on the Dell site for the ControlVault. It helped mine a lot. I use it to log in as well as for Roboform. Used to disappear after a few sleep/hibernate cycles, but has been solid since the update.

hey guys, just ordered a e7470 and pretty excited. Wondering however if I got a raw deal. I ordered it from amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Latitud...TF8&qid=1485622402&sr=8-4&keywords=dell+e7470) thinking it was new, but upon further examination it looks like these are refurb-ed from the dell outlet. I've been following on the dell outlet twitter for coupons but got impatient.

How likely are these to be scratch and dent vs certified refurb? I couldnt find it in the description

also any BIOS specific tweaks to get better battery life?

The warranty is 3 years from ship date, so these have been sitting there a little while if the warranty is only until 2019....and no month listed. Could do better from the Dell Outlet with a coupon...especially since the 7480 is out. I buy 7470s for customers and that is about the price I pay with ProSupport.
