Just as I thought... Did more research and it seems the single reason why some users got NVMe x4 on E5570 is simply because only E5X70 have HQ CPU options among entire Skylake Latitude line-up. And HQ CPUs have different PCI Express Configurations in their turn. I contacted Intel as well and they confirmed that it might be near impossible to find Skylake-U based laptop with x4 NVMe enabled.

I got a 7470 off the dell outlet. There was a 30% off coupon so that helped a lot.

Overall, I like it quite a bit.
It is unfortunate that I can't add on the fingerprint scanner, nor the securecard slot.
On my previous laptop (lenovo x230), I used the securecard slot to use an eGPU.
Sure wish it had thunderbolt 3/USB C!

My laptop doesn't appear to have an illuminated keyboard either, although the options appear in the BIOS. I plan to upgrade that. The dell D3100 dock works well.

Because I do heavy photo work, I want to upgrade the SSD to something > 512 Gig.
Are there any recommendations for brands/models? I suspect I'll end up with a TB SSD.
    Any suggestions welcome, thanks!

I bought my E7470 with everything in there....and it looks like it would be more difficult than previous generations to install a different keyboard. The whole computer (motherboard too!) needs to be removed to get to the keyboard. The guy who serviced my Dell when I got a bad keyboard was cursing at it just to replace a simple part. Used to be an easy 5 minute user replaceable part....not so much any more.

As far as SSDs are concerned, while limited and expensive....there are now some options for >512GB M.2. I won't get 1TB until there is an NVMe drive.....but even with a 512GB Samsung 950 Pro, I have ~100GB free. Probably no reason to upgrade until the E7480s are out. :)

I received an e7470 at work. It is configured with the i7-6600U, 8GB of ram, a 256 m.2. I cracked it open to check out how easily it would be to install another SSD or replace the existing m.2. It looks as though any other drive besides the m.2 would go under the battery. I didn't take the battery out to verify. One thing I did notice, when putting it back together, 2 of the 6 screws broke........ I guess I'm going to not open her back up unless absolutely necessary now........

Don't put the screws in with a hammer drill. I have had the back off my E7470 way too many times.....and never had an issue with any of the 8 screws.

    Hello everybody,

I've got my E7470 at the end of June, this year, from Dell Outlet, certified refurbished. Since I've got it, I didn't use it very much, mostly 3- 4 times a week, and mostly 2 - 3 hours at a time. I used the laptop plugged in most of the time and I limited the charge to 70% from Dell Command Power Manager application.

My laptop has a 3 cell battery. A couple of times it happened that the battery dropped from around 30% directly to under 10% when Windows displays the low battery message.

A few weeks ago I installed HWMonitor app from CPUID and I checked the batter wear level and it showed 7% wear. I became a bit concerned about the battery and I started to use it more often on battery to see how it behaves. I did around 3 full charge/discharge cycles and last night I've noticed that battery wear level is at 16%. However, Dell Command Power Manager says that battery state is good.

What do you think about this situation ? I'm really concerned that I've got a bad battery out of the box. If it goes like this, the battery will be dead in a few months. Battery manufacturer is displayed as Samsung SDI.

What battery wear level do your E7470s have ?

That does seem a bit odd. I got my E7470 at the end of July, certified refurbished as well, and since I got it it's been at 2.5% battery wear. I use is 4-5 days a week on battery for a couple of hours at a time so it's charged at least twice a week. I have the 4 cell battery if that makes any difference.

Yes, I think 2.5% is a normal value at your usage pattern. I've read somewhere that a laptop battery may even have this wear level right out of the box. Comparing to my case, my laptop was charged less than 10 times since I've got it. That's why a 16% wear level seems quite high for this usage.

Don't know if I could get the battery replaced under the warranty with this current wear level. From your experience does Dell replace the battery only if it's completely dead ? I've read that the battery is covered by only 1 year of warranty.
