I did 1700(3D mark 06), on what now seem very conservative clocks(505/679). That was on an XPS.. the vostros should do much better, since they are bigger(more airflow), unless the innards are badly designed... devilsknight, what was your 3D mark 06 score?

For people that are looking for drivers, I've been trying various drivers and it appears that the 162.22 drivers DO let you overclock while 163.16 and 156.13 did not work for me.

I'm still concerned about heat though. I'm idling currently at 63 degrees C, but when I run CoH and check the temps it goes up to 92. This is stock btw

Has anyone had luck w/ the thermal paste?

Edit: this is w/ the 1420, which is the same as the 1400 in all respects minus color from what I see

I am gonna see if 3dmark05 will run properly now with the overclocks. i am not sure why it didnt last time. I'll report temps and clock speeds after the run

Are these GPU temps as reported through I8kFanGUI?

man that is amazing. nice find. that memory can be pushed so far that card looks like a beast with those clocks.

Out of curiosity does the GPU have its own fan?

hey guys im paintin my house so i wont be on all the time. I will take pictures while im taking it apart and i can email them to you so you can post them up, i gotta get arctic silver before i do it, so most likely will do it tommorow. The Videocard does not have its own fan, in fact its just a heatsink and the "fan" pulls the heat from the heatsink, maybe that explains high temps. But the cooling is sooo messed up, im just mad i have to take the laptop apart so many times.

i have not ran 3dmark06 i just use 05, i guess i could download it once i try my mod. My only problem is i think i bent the copper shim, so im gonna try and remove the shim and the memory cooling pads which are covering the ddr3 ram. Im thinking exposing the gpu to the aluminum with arctic silver will provide better temps then using cooling paste --> shim --> cooling pad--> and aluminum heatsink.

oh well, i payed $613 for mine i hope i dont break it with all this cooling stuff.

do you guys know where i can buy a copper shim??

Ok, I just launched the "NVMonitor" through the Nvidia control panel, and I can only see about half or 2/3 of the utility on the screen when it runs. No option to resize. Anyone else getting this? (Ntune 5.05, ForceWare 158.36)

Otherwise I suppose I should play around more with the options in the Nvidia control panel - like setting a simple button to enable preset overclocked frequencies. I'm assuming there is a way to do this so that your GPU isn't always running with the higher clocks...?
