    Ok...

First time I overclock something so I'm going very slow =P
Used: 3dMark 05 --CPUID for temp monitoring -- I8kfanGUI keeping fans at max

    1- Stock (400-499) : 3358, 3366, 3373 Marks (83ºC - 84ºC)
    2- OC (450-561): 3794, 3798, 3803 Marks (81ºC - 82ºC)
    3- OC (500-630): 4233, 4238, 4250 Marks (84ºC - 86º)
    4- OC (525-663): 4430, 4438, 4459 Marks (86ºC - 88ºC)
    5- OC (550-691): 4610, 4618, 4632 Marks (87º - 89ºC)

Next run coming tonigh. I'll keep going slow so I can take all I can from this 8400 =) Then I'll test on some game demos and decide on a permanet OC. Most likely one that don't let the vga go beyond 115º on the most demanding games.

    Cya

Edit: From lowest stock benchmark to highest bench at OC (550-691) it's around 37% increase ;)

    Second run:

    6 - OC (575-720): 4784, 4827, 4854 Marks (88ºC - 91ºC)
    7 - OC (600-756): 4979, 4988, 5001 Marks (87ºC - 88ºC)
    8 - OC (625-783): 5151, 5211, 5224 Marks (87ºC - 90ºC)
    9 - OC (650-799): 5282, 5333, 5357 Marks (87ºC - 90ºC)
    10 - OC (650-810): 5321, 5393, 5417 Marks (88ºC - 90ºC)

Can't go pass that. Maybe another 10-15Mhz in core but ntune only lets me increase by 25... Does any other program allow that.
Expected even more but thats great already =) 87,5 % overclock on core and 62% on memory. That gave me about 42% increase in benchmarks on 3DMark05 :)

Gonna try working on Shader clocks today. Qich program can I use? Ntune has this option or only Rivatuner?

FYI: My 8400M GS in my Vostro 1400 died today!

This machine is 9 months old and has never been overclocked. This GPU only gets a workout when I'm playing Eve-Online. Luckily the GPU is being replaced under warranty and I definately think it was caused by the bad cooling. As soon as the warrantly expires im doing "something" about the cooling of the GPU.

Let this be an example of the standard warning to all overclockers... you WILL reduce the lifespan of your GPU especially in the 1400 Vostro.

Well overclocking will certainly kill this GPU. Mine failed even though I rarely stressed it to the maximum use, let alone overclock it. I got mine replaced even after the warranty expired last August as the Nvidia chip was faulty , as mentioned here

(PS sorry if the link was already posted!)
The lappy came back today and its as good as new now!
