**thanks mrg666, the crashing stopped by itself without me doing anything. I have no idea what was going wrong.

question to all, what is the shader clock? and can it be overclocked using atitool? How much does it affect performace compared to memory and core clocks?

Is anyone having better success overclocking the 8400m GS using drivers more recent than 167.26?
    Thanks!

hey everyone, this is my first post. I just ordered a hp dv2500t and am pretty excited about it.
iam a bit of an overclocking nut so this thread peaked my interest.
basically seeing as both the 8400ms and the 8600ms use the same core (the g84m) I was wondering if you could use a soft or hard mod to enable the extra 16 "streams" like in the 8600gt. if anyone needs a hard mod tried I could be a test dummy.(ive done my fair share of volt mods)
on another note what type of speeds are people getting out of the 8400s on the dv2500?
also should we be expecting a 8600 or 128mb 8400 on the dv2500?
    thanks!

You need to make sure you're using drivers that support overclocking

    The new 169.17 drivers do.

    Check em out!

I seem to be having the same problem. I was able to overclock using 169.17s . Then I changed the drivers and it stopped so i changed back to thr 169.17s and it wouldnt overclock anymore. I then resinstalled vista and it wouldnt overclock anymore no matter which driver i used. +++ i got 1300 stock on the previous install now iam getting 1000 in 3dmark06. any help on this would be highly appreciated!

I used an online driver program (used the link from laptopvideo2go) and it said that i have bad pcix drivers. i tried reinstalling and updating them but the message didnt change.

the good news is that i was getting 630/950 on the card. that is nuts! so once i get it going again it should be good :-D

also has anyone found a way to flash the bios on the dv2500? i tried backing it up and nvflash couldnt read the bios. is this a sure sign that the vbios isnt dedicated?

    thanks!

:EDIT: one more thing. rivatuner sees a disabled raster unit. i tried enabling it but it stills comes up as disabled. riva tuner shows the card as 16/8 when enabled though it doesnt seem to make a differance performance wise

You don't need to be using oc-enabled drivers to oc your 8400, or anyother card. Check back a few pages to see how it's done. 8400 and 8600 don't share the same core! You can't enable those hardware masked units on any of the gf8 cards.
