So i wasn't all that happy with my framerates in WoW so... I tried to overclock. Here is what i've got so far.

    BAse clocks

    core- 400
    memory-499

What i've push it to so far.

    core- 582
    memory- 840

I still haven't crashed it yet pushing it. IK might try to go further. so far i have only tested this in WoW, I was averageing 30 fps, now pushing 48 average.

My Vista experience performance was 3.2 is now 4.5 on the graphics.

    3dmark05 2988 and now 1362

that score came out the same on 2 seperate runs. Not sure why...

and now for call of duty 2

useing fraps, first test is base speed. second is overclocking.

    Frames: 4696 - Time: 60000ms - Avg: 78.267 - Min: 50 - Max: 92

I ran the tests in dx7 mode as that is what i play on, no AA is enabled on any of the games i tested.

    COmpany of Heroes
    Base 14.8
    overclocked- 18.8

BEst of all, the laptop doesn't overheat at all. it's been sitting on my lap the whole time and my legs is only slightly sweaty. Tommorow at work i'll pick up a digital thermometer to test just how much of a difference there is in heat.

All games we're run at 1440x900 which is my laptops res.

System specs as is, 2 gigs of ram, 8400m gs and 1.6 c2d. 120 5400rpm.

    any questions let me know.

Ok so i found out where to get a temp reading

I actualy got the system running stable at
    core- 765
memory- 900 Now thats overclocking is almost DOUBLE the base clock speeds, the temp was hitting 91 celcius.

With previous overclock, it was 87 c

    Base clocks. 81 celcius.

Wow, that's a lot of clocking. I plan to overclock my 8600M GT when I get my notebook, but nowhere near that much. Does it produce more noticable heat when OC'ed?

I have no experience with overclocking. What program/utility are you using to OC the GPU? I really do like my new 1420, but also feel a bit let down by the performance of the 8400M GS - at least on a newer game such as ArmedAssault. I won't be doing much gaming, but as this will now be my only computer, I'd like some more all-around performance. How safe is pushing the GPU to a higher clock?

What software did you use to OC it?

ntune 5.05 from the Nvidia website?

And what ForceWare driver are you using?

I have to agree with Zer0N1nja. I'm using the stock drivers from Dell and I am at 535/690 with no signs of slowing down yet. I'm using Rivatuner to overclock and I8kFanGUI for temps monitoring.

Right now I'm still on low fan speeds with GPU maxing out at 55C. My only worry is the Chipset temps. They are currently reading 93C... is that normal? I think it may be an error however because the laptop is not that hot at all and all other temps read 35C cooler then that.

    I'll keep pushing it!

Hmm, i wonder if you can apply some AS5 on the GP's core and memory in order to reduce the temps when overheating. I did this with my old 8600 dropping the temps dwon from 100 to 80 degrees C.

Anyone know what kind of heatsink the 8400 gs has
