    try Riva Tuner 2.02

it monitors temps and can overclock with preset frequencies. you make them. then apply them.

Guru3d has it for download, just google it.

alright im downloading 3dmark06 ill run it before i do the mod since it easier.

the farthest ive pushed my card is

    core- 652
    memory- 771

the temps are keeping me from pushing it higher. Riva tuner reports the core higher when the games load tho.

I just wanted to say thanks for all the info on overclocking as found in this thread so far. I have the D630 with the 135m, and now have a (Graphics/Gaming Graphics) 4.1/4.7 WEI score after using ntune to overclock to 600/755, using the 101.43 drivers.

It doesn't seem to be running warmer, or any less stable. Looks like this 135m isn't TOO bad, but i'll report more after a week or two.

    Regards,
    P

the d630 must have much better cooling than the vostro 1400 we got screwed haha. When i saw the bandwidth comparison to the 8600gt i got excited lol.

Using the same clock frequencies as you, my WEI went up to 4.3/4.9. Very nice. I also just looked at my temp graph on I8KfanGUI and it appears my GPU temps didn't really fluctuate at all, whereas my CPU temps were elevated during the WEI testing. My GPU is running at 47C and has only peaked at 52C.

    Update:
Just upped my clocks to 650/850 and now got a WEI score of 4.5/5.0. Not really sure how Vista determines these scores and how hard it stresses the GPU, but again my temps didn't really rise (aside from the CPU).

the CPU heatsink is easily accessible under the 1400. The screws require a phillips screw driver and its easy to apply AS5 to it, my cpu idles around 26 - 30 C.

depends what i have it on, its on my lap right now and is at 30.

    GPU is different

@rowen the screen for nvidia monitor is cut off for me too. I'm using ATI tools for clocking though.

Do you think if someone modifies the cooling on the 1400/1420 they could post a guide? That would be awesome

26-30C seems awfully low. I'm still uncertain if I'm having fan/heating issues on my 1420 (discussed in another thread), but the lowest temp I've seen for my CPU are 38C. Do you have the T5470 (1.6GHz)? From what other people had been discussing, it was assumed that a difference in CPU clock speeds shouldn't produce that great a temp or energy consumption difference. Is your fan running at these temps and at what RPM (if you're using I8kFanGUI)? Thanks

I just tried using I8kFanGUI and its giving me alot lower GPU temperatures. I don't think its accurate though...

except that...doesnt the 8400m GS have a 64bit memory interface as opposed to the 128bit memory interface of the 8600?
