Intersetingly enough I just got another 1400 from Dell (replacement for the grainy screen one I had previously) and I get some error message from nibitor that it can't connect to the service manager... I had this on the other (old) 1400 too but it went away somehow after a few reboots and driver installs...

On the upside it seems that this one has some particularly good RAM as it passes a 3dmark06 test at 635/975... the core actually passes 3dmark06 at 650 but it won't hold up to ntune or atitool stress tests there...

Even more odd is that it fails atitune tests at stock settings sometimes but I think that may be due to the head of ramping it up hard before...

More testing to confirm any/all of that coming up.

You still jealous :) I'm running over 900 MHz with no artifacts, or some errors.
How you can have problem to reach 700MHz on DDR3 when it comes like 700MHz from factory and it's underclocked? by Dell 500MHz, HP 600MHz

Do you even know how to check what memory u have? :)

How it works, with modded BIOS u say to ur graphics new "stock" freq. and u'r not using atitool anymore.. it runs all the time overclocked and card underclock automaticaly by idleing? I dont like flashing bios on my HP without warranty :(

Yes, by modding the bios, I reset the stock clocks with overclocked values. Card works at normal 2D values when 3D programs are not running. Well, if you do not feel comfortable, I would say, do not flash the bios. I must admit, although I have done bios modding many times with other desktop cards, I was feeling uneasy doing this on a laptop :)

Can I ask what you are using to check for artifacts? Could you try running atitools search for artifacts tool and see what comes up? that thing gives me weird results...

If you are trying to install Nvidia drivers not made for mobile cards you may want to look at www.laptopvideo2go.com to get modified .inf files to install your drivers. May take a little reading up.

I think we have found that 100C is still ok for the vid card, but be wear that certain temp reporting apps do not report the true temp.

So by overcoclocking, how much does the battery life get reduced on a 9 cell?

Nvidia 8400M and 8600M have performance levels. They run GPU and memory at slower frequencies during normal use and faster when 3D programs (games) run. So, if you only overclock in the 3D mode you would not notice any difference in the battery life during normal use. And, connecting the power adapter while playing 3D games is a good idea anyway.

    HI
nice mem oc:eek: i only got it to 500 MHz sucky chips i guess, but i did get the gpu to 650/1500 core/shaders stably by setting 3d voltage to 1.2V

So what is the recommended driver for the 8400gs when overclocking? I tried 156.65 but I cannot 'test' it in RivaTuner.
