64-bit Vista can be configured from the retail Dell page by selecting that option in the left hand pane.

Oddly enough, no, it can't. That option is not available in any of the M4400 configurations I have tried. (See attached picture.) I wonder if this is why it says "32 Bit" on the site? I definitely want the 64 bits.

Which struck me as weird, since that is how I got Vista Business 64 on my E6400.

On the other hand, Dell's web site does odd things some times.

At the risk of sounding repetitive - LEFT pane on the configuration page - http://www.dell.com/content/products/category.aspx/precnnb?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd

arg. i was lookin for a coupon. if i had waited one day, would've saved $170.

nice system btw. definitely looks like one of the better deals i've seen. i just got my m4400 and REALLLLY enjoying it. no problems whatsoever. screen is beautiful, and was able to play oblivion without any trouble. keyboard, build quality and screen are all way nicer than my previous asus w2v, and that's really saying something.

Since no one felt like answering my question I did some tests.

Stock for SOME REASON is 625core 800mem 1250shader
I know that many sites and people even from this very forum mentions 2500 shader with benchmarks yet no actual 1700m has 2500 shader.
Ive managed to clock in 733core 1000mem and 1600 shader to get a nice 7K in 3dmark06 & 14K in 3dmark05which translates to decent fps in fallout.

Really? Here in Europe Dell's website is the best, at least compared to HP, Lenovo and Fujitsu-Siemens. They are the only ones that allow full customization of the laptop.

so yesterday i went to best buy to pick up a new mouse, and while i was there, got to check out the dell studio and the new xps studio laptops. holy cow the build quality on those machines SUCKED compared to the M4400. i wasn't so surprised about the studio line, but i thought the xps 13 and xps 16 would've been nicer. the keyboards felt kinda flimsy compared to the m4400, and everything in general just felt cheaper. i'm still in that early period w/ my m4400 and god i am SO IMPRESSED with it! such a great laptop!! the screen is just unbelievable. i always like SUPER bright screens and even this one i have to turn down unless it's really bright inside. and the colors and clarity are simply awesome. the keyboard is fantastic, and the build quality is the best i've had. i don't know why anyone would want another laptop (unless you were looking for a better gaming rig)...

I thought that 1700M has shaders at 2000MHz. My FX770 has on default 500/800/1250 @ 35W and with these default values I have 6111 in 3DMark06 (resolution 1280x800 and non-stock drivers 185.68 WinXP 32bit). After small overclocking I have scored 6800 but still have some reserves.

If you have 1080p display then 3DMark06 sets probably resolution 1280x1024 which higher. Just verify if there is set 1280x800.

If you keep in mind that Dell exclusively sells their machines via telephone or their own website, yes, I would absolutely call Dell's website horrible. While it's true that here in Europe you can't configure laptops on Lenovo's website, there is no point in having an online configurator if sometimes prices are wrong, items are appearing and disappearing randomly, and with some items not available at all. Being able to get lower prices when directly talking to a Dell person is just a nice bonus - I don't recommend ordering from Dell via their webite unless you have a very good reason to do so.

"HerrKaputt" sounds like you're from germany, in which case we'd be talking about the exact same thing.
