I bought mine for usage in school, i don't know how the 3350 works, but i can say that V131 is a great product for studies. The battery life is great, and when the 4 cell battery hit´s the streets the weight will be around 1.6 kg when you switch the HDD for a SSD.
From what i heard the V131 is not SATA III, but i´m guessing that vertex 3 is compatible with SATA II. Unfortuneltly you will not get the full speed of the vertex 3.
I haven't noticed any heat problems, i think it´s fairly cool. One thing i can recommend is backlit keyboard completely amazing!

I´m not the guy to compare screens since my last laptop sucked, but generally i would say the screen is ok, the viewing angle could be better but that doesn't really bother me.

If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask

I am running an OCZ Agility 3 - 60 GB now with the latest 2.15 firmware. So far so good.

PS the Intel Rapid storage driver indicates
SATA transfer rate of 6 Gb/s, so it looks like sata 3 is supported.

I am customizing a Vostro V131 in the US website and there is no option to ship to Guam. Does anyone know how to get a Vostro V131 in a United States territory like Guam?

Can anyone confirm this? Is it SATA 6Gbps or not? (BTW, not called "SATA III") This may be the deciding factor on what SSDs to order.

I just ordered two V131 for my wife and I - hope we like 'em. :p

They have been updated with a Core i5-2430M (instead of 2410M) and the Core i3-2330M instead of 2310M, though the older CPU is still available in some configurations. Another change is that the Core i3-2330M is available with Ubuntu for $489, while the same thing with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit is $599. This may be a cheap way to get one of these if you don't need/want Windows. It is pretty stripped down, with a Dell branded WiFi, no backlit keyboard, no fingerprint reader and 2GB/320GB RAM/HDD.

A few deals going on... Free shipping on all V131. Don't know if this is normal or not.

Get a Dell Inspiron Mini 1012 for $99.99 (plus $25 shipping) with any V131 purchase! It is an Atom netbook with 2GB RAM, 250GB HDD, Bluetooth but only B/G WiFi (no N). I don't know when this expires. It is on the second page (Accessories) at the bottom.

Get $200 off the top spec $799 V131 with Core i5-2430M, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, backlit keyboard, fingerprint reader, Intel 1030 Wifi+BT. You have to use a coupon code, but it is conveniently printed right on their site with the product. I think valid until 10/28. Pretty nice to be able to get the Core i5 V131 for $599 with free shipping.

I just fired up HWINFO and it says that the interface for the drive is Sata 2. I don't know how it works though, could be that just because there's a Sata 2 drive it's reported as sata 2...

I can confirm it uses 6 Gbps drives at faster than 3Gbps rates.

Confirmed with Intel rapid storage application and via crystal diskmark using compressable data.
    I see reads 400-475 and writes 350 to 400 MB/s

this is with aa very low end Sandforce 2 SSD
    OCZ Agility 3 60 GB

larger and better models will see higher performance as there will be more (and better) nand to stripe across.

Sweet! I currently don't have any SATA 6Gbps SSDs, but that may change come Black Friday.
