Yes, correct also maybe (and this is really not that important) make it lighter workstation not sure if they decrease the weight. Again that's not really important considering its a workstation I am just curious if its possible.

Another point on improving a spec the Lenovo P70 is using HDMI 1.4 I believe (correct me if I am wrong)

Don't they have HDMI 2.0 or HDMI 2.0a out now? Again correct me if I am wrong. I just was curious if Dell could use that instead? I am not aware of any notebooks or mobile workstations that are currently using that yet.

Excellent, comes with Windows 7 pre-installed.

Rumors, yes, but interesting nevertheless. Removing the optical drive could be a good move. These are certainly not as important anymore, and you can plug in an external drive if you really need one. On the other hand, this could allow for a more compact design, which could be nice.

Instead of them removing the optical bay I would like them to give the option to either keep it or put a HD caddy in its place so you do not need to buy one later.

I would much prefer to buy a laptop with a HD caddy which fits properly rather than an optical drive which I may not use.

The images don't work if embedded remotely (the remote site appears to be checking the referring URL). You can see them by copying the link directly into the URL bar of your browser (not clicking the link from here).

(You can also remove the ".thumb.jpg" for a larger view.)

It's views of both sides of the motherboard for the new 17" system. We can see that it uses DDR4 ECC memory (four modules, two on each side as before), Xeon CPU, full size MXM graphics card, and mPCIe slots for WLAN and WWAN. Also looks like two mini PCIe NGFF SATA connectors that can also take standard mSATA drives? (Am I looking at that right?)

Wish we could see the chassis too :p.

Yes, these look like M.2 (formerly known as NGFF) PCIe connectors.

The M.2 connector supports both AHCI and NVMe, so you can connect either mSATA or PCIe SSDs.

    M.2 supports the following interfaces:
    • PCI Express 3.0 (using either AHCI or NVMe)
    • SATA 3 (using AHCI)
    • USB 3.0

I see NGFF 2242, why not use the more common 2280? So far I have not seen many SSDs in the 2242 form factor.... ;)

I see that it says 2242. It looks like it might actually support both? It looks way longer than 42mm. The hole right next to the words "slot 3" and "slot 4" would be at 42mm, but there is another place for a screw further up (partially covered by the yellow circle around the "6") which would be at around 80mm.

    [Edit]
From the same web site, this appears to be the heatsink for the 15" and 17" versions.
