Do you think we'll finally see a new chassis design?

    Edit:

    Reuploaded the slides to Imgur.

I really like the look and feel of the current 'bronze' chassis, so personally I hope they didn't change it much.

The one thing I would like to see changed is the touchpad. The current one is just too small.

And if they managed to make the base cover completely screwless, that would be a nice improvement too.

I feel like there could be some improvements to the size and weight of the Precisions, especially now that the thin bezel design has become a Dell staple.

Given that the new Xeons will be soldered down to the motherboard (all Skylake mobile CPUs are), by the looks of things, Dell has put the I/O on to separate daughterboards apart from the ethernet jack (?) at the back. Don't want to scrap a whole board + CPU over a dead port I guess.

The two connectors at each side could be for these I/O daughterboards.

All I can say is that I'm really excited to finally get photo evidence/confirmation that something is being developed.

I'm very pleased at what I'm seeing here.

Intel E3-1505m and E3-1535m mobile Xeon processors will probably be released in Oct-November according other articles I've read

The new workstations with the mobile Xeon processors will probably not be released until after those dates. Your guess sounds about right.

Edit: I've also read that the NVIDIA M5000M, which will be available in the P70, is maxwell based. No more keplar mobile quadros. yay

It does say "MSATA", but I can't see any way they'd fit there, I guess it'll be M.2 only (B or M keyed, I can never remember which is which)

M.2 is SATA compatible, not mSATA.
You can connect SATA M.2 SSDs or PCIe M.2 SSDs, but not mSATA SSDs as they don't fit, you'd need an adapter for that.

I hope for a system which allows a config with Intel onboard GPU only. No need for a strong GPU on my side.

Just a software dev with multiple VMs running in parallel on my laptop - so RAM, storage (big and fast :) ) and cores is what I am interested in.

For storage a mixture of 2.5" SATA and M.2 PCI slots would be nice to reuse recent 2.5" SSDs and replace mSata with fast and large M.2 PCIe SSDs. DVD can by external - super seldom use for that.

One or two external displays attached, between FullHD and 2560x1600 with DP and/or HDMI, no need for 4K which seems a power waste to me just like an extra GPU.

Builtin 16:10 display (1920x1200) would be preferred - but somehow this wish seems to be totally ignored by the laptop companies :-(

You need a 'B + M' keyed mSATA-to-M.2 adapter (with 2 notches). This is because mSATA SSDs use only 2 PCIe lanes (PCIe 2x).

NVMe SSDs have an 'M' keyed connector (with 1 notch), which uses upto 4 PCIe lanes (PCIe 4x).

For more info about M.2 keying:
