It is around 6/7 months since the M6800 was released, and should be around 6/7 months before the M6900 is launched.

I must admit that the M6800 did not excite me, and I did not feel any urge at all to upgrade from my M6600 (which still works very well).

Technology however is moving forward, and a faster machine is always appreciated. With that in mind, I wanted to ask what you would like to see Dell realistically include in the M6900?

Huh, really? I have to say, getting 3.8-3.9GHz on the CPU side, the support for K5100M/780M, the better battery life, lower weight better build quality and design... I dunno, I was very impressed with the M6800.

What I'd like to see in the M6900 is more freedom in the BIOS, lower weight, a slimmer and more portable design.

I'd also like to see MXM 3.0B-standard cards in the M4900.

Dell can make this happen. I hope they do.

    In general for the M4900/6900

New chassis/design that is lighter yet retains the same build quality and features (e.g. more durable finish)
    M.2 PCI-E 3 SSDs
    Thunderbolt
    USB 3.1
Minor KB layout tweaks (group page navigation keys together where the media controls are currently, make the media controls Fn+F key combos, replace 'Home' with menu and 'End' with print screen)
Backlit KB standard across the range
Langer touchpad (at least to the edge of the space bar) + larger buttons
Matt IPS panels standard (not too fussed about colour depth)
    QHD/4k panels optional on both
    GPU switching on QHD/4k panels

    That's about it.

Strictly speaking, I have no hope at all. What they should do is bring back a 16x10 aspect ratio, IPS full-gamut screen (or equivalent quality), and a slimmer and updated design (think Razer). Higher resolution could be nice, but only if Windows could handle it, which it can't, so no interest there. Thunderbolt would be welcome, too, of course.

My guess is that none of this will happen, and my trusty old M6400 will remain the last Dell in that class I ever bought. Too bad.

I would like to see docking options with PCI-Express Lanes on docking port and an option to install PCI-e x16 Cards, an x16 Slot in Docking station. I asked for that since the release of E-Port generation (Precision M6400 till M6800). I am still using my Dell Crestline santa rosa platform laptops (Dell Precision M6300, Precision M4300 and Precision M2300) and I have upgraded them to the upper end all with 8 GB DDR2 Memory, Intel Core 2 Extreme X9000, M6300 with Quadro FX 3600M and M4300/M2300 with newly soldered 2010 revision of Quadro FX360M that remains much cooler than the 2007 revision and without the error of 2007 revision. I have PCI Soundcards for Audio Mastering in my D-Dock Docking Stations and I really would appreciate to be able to upgrade to a PCI-e option Docking Station and Laptop.
I really would appreciate to have a 16:10 aspect ratio screen.

    Yours sincerely,
    Jelges

I would really like to see 17" IPS RGB (or equivalent high gamut) screens returning in the Precision M6900. Anti-glare of course.

I would also like to see a bigger mousepad. The current one is just too small for comfort.

Personally, I like the 'brick' design of the Precison M6x00. I would not like it if Dell changed this design too much.

Other than that, faster CPUs / GPUs / RAM / wifi.

Here's my wish list for the M6900 (I have M6700)

    - Zero flex in the keyboard. It's not bad, but not perfect
    - Fix light bleed around the keys.
    - Make lid latch better, maybe like M6600
    - Keep awesome IPS screen, quality all the way please with the screen
    - Redesign dorky speaker grill area.
    - I would LOVE a larger screen. Seriously, 19" would NOT be too large for me
    - Put page up/down keys elsewhere, leave blanks so the arrows can be found by touch
    - Keep ports on back (like m6700)
    - Keep larger, industrial, heavy, solid design. I like it this way, it's solid (a workstation)
    - Offer colors for NO extra cost. It's BS that it costs so much for a stupid Covet edition. Kiss my Dell.
    - Keep drives and slots, everything like M6700 is perfect
    - Keep bumping up the ram/cpu/gpu as technology allows.
    - Redesign the interior bezels. Something a little more striking possible?
    - Stay with the rubberized metal interior. It's awesome, soft(ish) and doesn't show fingerprints. WOW. Good stuff.
