I've long been a proponent of the modular system. And with that in mind, what I'd really like to see is the adaption of display modules. So that they could be replace/upgraded easily and without major modification via the factory.

Its well past time for laptops to match desktop in this most basic replaceable/upgradeable option. Especially considering the present climate of rapid display advancement these days.

I'd also like to see some remote power switch so you don't have to open the laptop (when its in desktop configuration) to turn it on. When I'm at home, my laptop rests beneath the display. So I have to dig it out and open it to switch it on.

I'm thinking an added on/off glow and/or added safety beep for protection. This would work best on the laptop, but at least include it on the dock. Speaking of the dock, it is so under utilized by Dell.

i just wish M6900 could implement same size of fan as in Alienware M17x so that it can survive long term stability for full workload. current model full work load got CPU temperature to 90-95C and this thermal design is not suitable for heavy work load users..

    I have an M6500.

    - 16:10 - I can't blame this on Dell for dropping, blame it on the panel makers. However, I'll take a QHD+ in lieu, as I can scale it to my needs. When the m4800 came out with it and the 6800 didn't......

    - enterprise NIC. This is the flagship, why not run the Intel x540 lom and give us 10g too?

    - rear ports - I have to use a docking station to get them, which isn't all bad. (for the 6800 users, I'd like a display port)

    - more USB - I need at least 6, I hate using expanders.

And I'm baffled by the power switch comment several folks have made. My coworker has an m6800 and it works fine with the dock power button. Are you using it without a dock?

I'd also vote for a dock with pci-e slots!

I need 10 bit. Any display without it is useless for my needs.
Definitely time to let VGA go.
A mouse and a cooler and you're down to two. Not enough for my peripherals, since I can have video coming in from 2-3 sources simultaneously. Otherwise I have to wait, and time is money.

I am. I was on again, off again, about buying one. But just was not impressed by its capabilities and primitive (useless) ports. Does it have Power On?

    Ditto.
Tell me about it. I got up to 96C (it was sitting on my cooler) running the Intel XTU test program. It passed the test but not with a lot of room to spare.

Yup. They're pretty cheap on eBay (I found a good deal on one with the 240W adapter for basically the cost of the adapter).

    IPS or UQHD+ Please!
Screen on M6800 is absolute rubbish (Matte 1920x1080)
The IPS on the M6700 was far superior
Screens on $1500 -$2000 laptops ( sony, samsung etc leave the m6800 for dead)
Dell, don't go backwards again as a lot of us precision users use graphical programs.

Maybe they ran out and didn't feel it feasible to order new one? In any event, you got some upgrades and lost one. The 10 bit IPS was one of the main reasons I ordered the Precision.

Could you share with us what you use the Express Card slots for? There was a remote control fitting in E-slots back in 2008, but I cant find anything of the like and most EC devices seem useless to me.

    @ Dell

I second the notion of UNLOCKING the BIOS! Particularly...there is no way to control the fans and if you are a power user as the ones complaining above :D you are pretty much screwed.

There are those who wouldnt care - they will want silence so they can focus on their colleagues chit chat and gossip gibberish. However some will appreciate a REV option in BIOS.

That would be nice, and all USB 3.0 or the newer 3.1 if that is available.

Coming from the M6600 (my M6800 arrives next week) I would like to see support for a digitizer pen reintroduced. I know there must be about 3 people on the planet who thought that useful but, to me, it was really useful for the work I do. As the LCD screen can fold flat since the 6700 series, even better.
