    EDIT:

One more thing I've always wondered about. We've always been able to use the computer without the monitor, why is it we can't we use the monitor without the computer?

Thunderbolt has been pretty lackluster on PC. Nevertheless, it is an advanced technology with a lot of advantages. Especially when applied to audio and video editing. It greatest supporting community to date.

Requires extra hardware and no one is going to put it as we can see how cost-cutting-oriented everything has become.

A problem easily solved if you implement it via a doc. After that, a simple switch would be all that you need. Every laptop should have this independent monitor mode. The potential uses are enormous; and its a feature I think is way overdue.

It requires video input board (the color boards of the IPS fitted machines (both HP and DELL) do have this option, it's not used though) as well as video input ports (and you can't add them, since they are not wired out of the BGA), then comes the independent power delivery, independent display settings control... Sorry, but I can't expect this from DELL - they just made Alienware complete POS... If you can hold your breath long enough - go ahead. Don't get me wrong, it would be an awesome addition if done properly and I was thinking about the very same thing, but I can see none that can do it as of now.

I understand there is some amount of complexity. However, it was a new class of laptop that I had in mind. One with significantly more versatility and upgradabilty than today's current models.

The current style has reached their limit, and while generic brands are reverting back to baked-in hardware, the DTR are going to have to expand and innovate in order to distance themselves from the ever expanding tablets/handheld segment, and to keep pace with today's fast changing electronics market. Laptops have the capacity to be a lot more versatile than they currently are.

My only request: GAMING GRAPHICS CARDS.

No reason we shouldn't be allowed to pick a M6800 or M6900 with a 980M.

I'd have bought a 6800 but for the lack of graphic card options.

This one doesn't even begin to make any sense. If you want a toy, buy a toy. The Precision line are professional workstations, not toys. Besides, gaming performance of the workstation graphics cards in these is virtually indistinguishable from the equivalent gaming cards.

    Maximum weight: 2.5 kg.
And an option to add external battery easily like on the older latitude models. I should be able to accomplish my tasks on a single charge , i.e. I want a portable workstation without sacrificing performance and battery life.
