I don't think you can go past 64GB without more than four slots, or modules larger than 16 GB.

Yeah. ha, I was reading and typing 64GB, but was thinking of 32GB. 64GB is huge

64GB is indeed huge and I would imagine the price of 64GB of DDR4 RAM is just as huge! Doubt it is cheap.

Still, what Lenovo has announced is very exciting for anyone that is looking at what the M6900 may include. Two thunderbolt ports, Xeon, DDR4 etc.

    Exciting times!

Exciting indeed, especially the 4K IPS display. I can only hope Dell will offer similar components in the M6900. The suspense of waiting for news from Dell is killing me...

Lenovo is a manufacturer I would personally not consider. Not after the recent reports of factory-installed root kits in the BIOS and forged security certificates to inject marketing ads, opening the back door for malware.

And let just hope that the 4K IPS is a true RGB panel and not fake-crap **** from Samsung. It would be a joke to see 'PenTile' technology in a true business workstation that costs > $2K :D

The articles say that the P70 will be able to support up to four storage devices and up to 1TB of SSD storage.

Do you think this means that 1TB is the max the computer can handle combined or per storage space?

I mean Samsung has 2TB SSDs out now and frankly if I was upgrading I would not mind having 2 x 1TB SSDs on my laptop.

I also really like the look of the P70's fingerprint reader which you press rather than swipe your finger across. I have never been able to get my M6600 fingerprint reader to work properly so perhaps that could also be a welcome addition. Certainly looks nice.

The Lenovo P70 can accomodate more than just 1TB storage. I think the 1TB spec from Lenovo P70 is for the M.2. PCIe SSD bay/slot. Currently the largest capacity M.2 PCIe SSD is at 512GB. I'm certain that larger capacity PCIe SSDs will come out soon. Lenovo marketing is probably saying 1TB since that will initially be the max size m.2 PCIe SSD available at the time of it's release.

the other non-PCIe bays are probably the typical SATA3 connections. You can fill that with whatetver HDD or SDD that can plug into a SATA connection.

Note: PCIe SSDs are currently the fastest storage available with something like 1GB per second transfer speeds. That is fast! Compare that to the 250MB per second transfer speeds in my SATA2 m6500 SSD bays.

*edit: getting excited for what DELL has up it's sleeve

No. This probably means that you can order a P70 with upto 1TB of SSD storage installed from the factory. You are free to add additional or larger SSD storage yourself.

Samsung presented a 2.5" 16TB SSD (PM1633a) constructed from 48-layer 256 Gbit tlc v-nand, with a SAS interface, during its keynote on the Flash Memory Summit 2015. Future 850 EVOs will get the same flash memory instead of the current 36-layer 128 Gbit tlc v-nand. Production of these EVOs is supposed to start this month. So, you can expect larger SSDs from Samsung in the near future.

I really think the 1TB cap reference relates only to the specs sabout the PCIe SSD storage, not to the other three drive bays.

    http://www.anandtech.com/show/9503/...ile-workstations-with-first-mobile-xeon-chips

PCIe SSDs (particularly those using M.2 connection) have not yet caught up in capacity to typical 2.5" SSD storage devices based on the old SATA1-3 standard. I think that is probably the main reason they say the PCIe SSD is capped at 1TB in these early data sheets/articles.

You are right that the 1TB limit refers to PCIe SSDs and not SATA SSDs.

I haven't seen one larger than 512GB (M.2 form factor) yet, but this doesn't mean there won't be any in the near future.

The largest mSATA I've seen is 1TB.
