    Yeah, come on! :D

How come we knew when the iPhone was coming out 3 months ahead of time, we knew when the new Star Trek is coming out 6 months ahead of time, and the Mayans told us when the world is going to end  thousands of years ahead of time, but Dell continues the old philosophy of cloak and daggery.

I think the lesson we've learned from Apple is that a specific launch date builds hype and helps sales, whether it's a movie, a gadget, Armageddon, or even a new laptop.

(Dman, please forward my plea to your superiors. I'll even sign up for a text like I did with Obama's Veep pick if it will help the case. I NEED TO KNOW! ;) )

    OK People...

I ordered 50 M6300 yesterday (that is 50 units), and canceled the order this morning telling my dell rep (I have a corporate account). I told her I could wait a month or two to get the m6400 instead. She informed me that they will be on the website.... 25 September 2008.:D

There is your date of availability!:D

Considering the price of the w700:notworthy: , I'm not sure if I should even wait... The w700 is just BARELY out of my price range at mid-spec w/ a 2700m... hopefully the m6400 release will be the start of a price war we can all benefit from, but I'm still doubtful... Man both of these 17" monsters make me drool...and hopefully it's a little smaller then the w700.

    No, no its not.

I'm going to buy a laptop and I've been looking at the E6500 and the W500 (I need a WUXGA screen).
Even with the better graphics card, the Lenovo W500 is coming out to be cheaper than the E6500 (at EPP prices). The nice thing about Lenovo is that they have started giving out coupons and having very nice promotions.
    Their upgrades are cheaper too.

I configured a W500 with 2.53 Ghz, 2GB single sodimm, ATI V5700, 160 GB 7200 rpm drive, Vista Business, WUXGA screen and 4 year accident protection warranty for about $1700 after coupons.

Talk is cheap. Where's the link? And besides that's with coupon, not to mention Lenovo is having 'sales' to get people to buy their products NOW. Where were those coupons before?

Dell has always offer discounts on their products.

Over generalizations always make good targets, yeah? It's great you found an example that counters the statement, and sounds like you've found a good deal. Congrats.

But I think the general perception is that when you consider the #1 or #2 seller of hardware in the world, they'll "always" be able to offer a better deal than the #4 or #5 competitor. Maybe not up front, maybe not on any specific day, but if you're patient, and wait for a discount...

    That just economics.

The situation has changed recently. It is true that dell used to offer discounts better than Lenovo before, but for the past year or so, Lenovo has been offeing better discount on laptops.

Yes, that coupon got the price down, bu even before that (and even now), if you purchase via Lenovo CPP or Lenovo SPP programs, the laptops will come out to be cheaper than dell business.

I'm not bashing dell (I have a fine dell precison M90), just giving an update now.

There are also (almost) never any coupons for dell business, whereas Lenovo seems to be having coupon promotions often.

PS: The lenovo promoion in question was posted here in NBR :)

In the past year, Lenovo almost always lower priced than dell business.

We're talking about business laptops. Do you have data on that ? HP is #1 in overall notebook sales, yet their business laptops are pricier (at least for my configs) in US than dell business or Lenovo.
