Seriously, yes! I even gave my reasons. Not everyone regards something as a 1 or 2 threaded game or a Photoshop session as "high end use".

Practically everyone I know, involved in server technology, would love a laptop which could seriously cope with double-digit numbers of Windows-server based VMs. Some of the geekier one's are even prepared to pay!

Think I'll hold out for a hyperthreaded Nehalm quad tho.

The mobile version of the Nehalem is not due until the second half of 2009.

True, but that's not a lot of glory-time for a £2500+ lapwarmer, as sure as eggs is eggs their will be a Dell model announced asap. And that, I hope, will present 8 cores. Yum!

Is that aimed at me? I quoted £s.

Yes, I really wish Dell would put a backlit keyboard in their top-end kit. I note the video confirms Apple's knowledge that "creative environments" don't always have strip-lighting...

While I'm waiting for the M6400 to be released, I thought I should check on the competition. I know there is the Thinkpad W700, and I think the HP 8730w is also worth a look. Are there any more I should consider?

I confirm, buying "custom" Lenovo is pretty hard in Europe. Dealers, here in France, only sale few models (and not up to date) and if you want one with special feature well... just fly to the US !
    Price are really mad too.
There is a backdoor so : buying an US model online and then, at least for french, order an azerty keyboard directly from Lenovo to replace the qwerty one.
Here is a link to some dealer online that ship worldwide (I don't get any credits, just for info) :
