Speaking of graphics cards, which one will run cooler-the FX3700M or the 9800M GTX?

i'm not shure, but i think in the trailer on the dell website, the precision m6400 has an keyboard backgroundlight like the xps 1730.

i'm an hp 8710w mobile workstation user. the m6400 impressed me.

I need to order a notebook for this coming school year/grad school next year and I like what I see in the Dell m6400. Primarily: It should be both capable of gaming AND being used in grad school without flamboyant red flames/glowing lights drawing deprecating looks. (Seriously, I cannot tell you how exasperated I’ve been by the designs of gaming laptops. I would like to be able to take my laptop into a professional environment without looking like an adolescent tool.) Also the LED screen is a huge bonus for digital photography/web design work, and I appreciate the option for 2x500gb drives and the ‘quad’ core.

I am concerned about the graphics card though. If it is true that the Quadro FX 3700m could be used with consumer drivers, then my hope is that the quadro would outperform the 9800m GTX (the quadro has 128 cores vs the gtx’s 112).

    From http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=80145
Further thoughts regarding the graphics card: I imagine that the quadro will be an inelegant solution because it is fabbed at 65nm (= ~75watts). I really need to purchase a notebook in the near future though, so unless the 9800m gtx is fabbed at 55nm, the quadro would be my best bet (if it is indeed true that the quadro would outperform the gtx w/ consumer drivers due to 16 more cores). The only other remote possibility is that the mobility radeon 4850 is released (fabbed at 55nm and hopefully outperforming all of the nvidia gtx/quadro line) but I've basically lost faith in AMD releasing anything.

So what does everyone think? Am I right in speculating that the quadro could outperform the gtx? Crysis would still bring this notebook to its knees, but my thought is that it would be better to purchase one quadro now – using it for the next year or two and upgrading once mobile cards are fabbed at 45nm – than spend an obscene amount of money for (a far more capable) gtx sli setup in the too-hunkey-for-my-tastes Sager D901C.

**I just found the quadro 3700m listed on Eurocom's site with an ETA of October 08. I know that Eurocom and Dell might receive the cards at different times, but I would be :( if I had to wait until October for this thing.

Hmmm, if it really outperforms the 9800m gtx?

Only benchmarks will show us proove and we'll have to wait for them. So welcome in the club...

No HDMI but it has DisplayPort (more futureproof and can connect to HDMI via a suitable cable). Yes eSATA - there is a USB / eSATA combo port.
