    :D :D

btw, to deviate...I chose the m4400 over the lenovo's because I couldn't get my screen with Lenovo...I'm only an accountant and gamer who works on this machine, and I needed (or wanted) the graphics engine for gaming as my tax programs will run on a clock radio :D Support comes into play also for work.

That being said, I think you are well advised to get an m4400, but these graphics pro's around here can help you sort out the RGBLED decision.

Thanks for that comparison Intoxicate, I appreciate the pictures. Although I'm pretty sold on the RGB LED, I'm still curious to see a side-by-side with a CCFL screen.. The mac book in your pictures shows exactly what I hated about the Studio 15 WXGA+ LED screen- the overly bright bluish cast of white LEDs ends up kind of washing out all the colors. White LED backlight is really a step backwards in the world of notebook screens- or at least compromises too much color integrity..

That looks good on the right...I think my samsung looks better than that MBP if the pic is accurate. I have the 1440.900 LED btw in sig.

Well without starting a little battle hear I think it is important to note that I said if you are not interested in the WUXGA LED screen on the M4400 than it is better to go with the W500. I didn't say flat out that the W500 is better.

I was extremely close to getting a M4400 with the WUXGA RGB screen but the rep did not call me back like she promised so I went with the W500 (as well as other reasons). Not only does the W500 offer lower power processors (25W versus 35W), it also offers faster and lower power DDR3 (17% lower power consumption), and hybrid graphics for even lower power consumption. However, above all that, the W500 is a lot cheaper.

    I got:

    Vista Basic
    P9500 (2.53Ghz, 1066Mhz FSB, 6MB L2, 25W)
    1GB DDR3-1066
    160GB 5400RPM HDD
    WSXGA+ CCFL screen
    Intel 5300
    Integrated Bluetooth
    ATI V5700 + Intel X4500HD Hybrid
    3 year warranty

    Total: $1285

I don't think the M4400 is going to get close to being competitive with that price...

wasnt trying to start an argument, was just relating my own (fairly recent) experience shopping for my laptop. when i first started my search i did not think i could afford a precision, due to the high list price even with the advertised discounts, but my rep suggested it to me anyway, and gave me a huge discount on it.

    was deciding between the m4400, m6300, W500, T500, asus G70, hp elitebook 8530 and studio 17.

ruled out the 17 inchers because was not practical. ruled out the T500 because it dint have a WUXGA screen. so was pretty much down to M4400, W500 and elitebook.

someone got an m4400 for $13xx with 4gb ram and 250gb hdd, but lower processor P8600 i think. that was with the 30% off.

i forgot about the W500's battery life. it is better than the M4400.

kind of weird the rep dint call you back, normally even if you dont ask them to call you back they still call you back to try and sway you lol...kind of annoying when you're still shopping around and was just looking for a quote

The lenovo is 500 dollars more expensive where I live, even with its no where near as good ATI GPU,the W500 ccfl wsxga I looked at was typical of lenovo [and dell] ccfl screens in that it had poor contrast and uneven lighting, poor brightness....so even taking the presumably much better quality RGB model out of the equation.....I'd still pick the dell WXGA+ on screen quality, even though I would prefer WSXGA resolution.

For me the dell wins on price, screen quality, graphics horsepower, options, and still has very good battery life [even if its worse than the W500]

That's pretty much my opinion also, although I can't comment of the W500 as I've never see the screen up close...but they're both decent, I was waivering on the two and obviously picked the m4400 when I weighed out everything for me.

@intoxicate.....those pic's are some of the best comparative ones I've seen posted yet.

Do you still have the wxga+ M4400 also?
