I'm getting ready to order an M4400, and the only question left is weather to get the WUXGA or WUXGA RGB LED screen...

We just got an E6500 w/WUXGA screen for my wife, and I have to say the brightness/contrast is very good- and the anti-glare finish on the screen is fantastic- you can look at this thing in any lighting conditions and not even think twice...

So what are the benefits/tradeoffs of the RGB LED. I know glare tradeoff as the RGB LED seems to be very reflective. But does the increased brightness/gamut *really* make up for this in very bright (daylight) conditions?

Also, what does the "RGB" in "RGB LED" really mean? I know the regular WUXGA screen is CCFL (just white) backlit. Does RGB LED involve three different colored backlights?

RGB LED backlit means a red, a green and a blue light emmitting diode will light up the screen ;)

the RGBLED display is brighter. the colour on the other hand, its very very hard to say its better. its not noticably better. you wont notice unless they're side by side or you're a professional who works with these things

used my friend's laptop with the RGBLED, the only thing i noticed straight away was that it was brighter.

thats not to say that the CCFL one is not bright

Honestly, the only reason to get the M4400 over the Lenovo W500 or T500 is the WUXGA LED screen. If you aren't really interested in that screen, the others are a lot cheaper.

Actually, the Dell Outlet prices make Dell the price winner no matter what:D Also, I must have a backlit keyboard- after using one I can't go back!

I just want all the pro/cons on RGB LED vs CCFL before I decide. I tried a WXGA+ LED screen on a Studio 15, and found that it was too bright, and seemed to wash out some of the color. Then when I turned the brightness down to a reasonable level, there was no longer a good contrast range. But maybe that's because it didn't use RGB LEDs?

this isnt quite true. if you call dell and get a good discount, or use one of dell's 30% off coupons, thers really no competition, because not only is it higher specced, but also cheaper.

the t500 isnt in the same league as the M4400, it has a consumer grade graphics card which is starting to get a bit dated, and you cant order it with a WUXGA screen, ccfl or led for that matter

the W500 is a better comparison. negative points are the graphics card not being as powerful, and no RGBLED display.

    m4400 is cheaper than it!

With the EPP and additional coupons always available, you can easily get a w500 with more than 40% discount at any time. The w500 is cheaper similarly spec'd.

Well the RGB-LED-screen is a glossy one. The colors will be better due to the glossy surface and the RGB-LED. To just point out the difference between LED and RGB LED you need to compare two "glass plate" screens. So I will post some pic of the new MacBook Pro and the Precision M6400 with a E2E-RGB-LED. To complete the comparison I will later add some pics of a XPS M1530 with a ccfl WUXGA screen.

    Great photos... :)

Does anyone have any experience with these RGB-LED's in comparison with Lenovo's old IPS displays?
