Maybe Pantone is compatible with basICColor or iColor Display from Quato? ;)

basICColor can be used as 30 days trial.

PremierColor is built in Precision M6400/6500 together with 8Bit RGB-LED display. And you can there choose in menu NTSC (nativ) gamut or Adobe-RGB and sRGB. But as users write here, that application is not working well.

"15.4" WUXGA TrueLife RGB LED display (1920x1200) featuring 100% Adobe® Color Gamut" tells Dell for the M4400. So is that a "PremierColor" display too, working with 8 Bit?

At present I can not find the direct link on Dell website to display info - but google helps a little :):

    Enjoy more with PremierColor

PremierColor is a color technology sub-brand from Dell which encapsulates the key attributes of color such as precise color accuracy, compatibility with industry color standard, internal color space selection as well as amazing color gamut and depth. PremierColor is supported on new Dell PrecisionTM laptops with an RGBLED backlight.See the key attributes below to learn more about PremierColor technology.

    * Consistent and precise color : PremierColor-supported Dell PrecisionTM laptops are shipped with factory level pre-defined color space such as AdobeRGB, sRGB, and NTSC to deliver accurate image color data.
    * Alignment with industry color standards : PremierColor-supported Dell PrecisionTM laptops have high color gamut coverage. Above 100% Adobe and NTSC and above 130% sRGB.
    * Internal color space selection : PremierColor-supported Dell PrecisionTM laptops come with internal color space selection ability via Dell Control Point software. Color space selection enables the users to select their desired color space such as NTSC, sRGB and Adobe based on their desired output without having to use external calibration tools.
    * Amazing color gamut and color depth : Premier color supported Dell PrecisionTM laptops offer over 100% color gamut with true 24-bit color depth which supports over 16.7 million color palettes. The concentrated Red, Green and Blue LED lights generates true deep black in high contrast.

Yes, I already read that, but that doesn't tell me what PremierColor actually is. Is it a class of quality seal for hardware? Is it a software? Is it a marketing term?

From this thread, it seems that it's color profiles for RGBLED screens built into the ControlPoint software. I never had such settings in ControlPoint, that's why I asked what exactly PremierColor is.

Ah well, seems like I don't need it, but it'd be nice to know anyway.

Yes it seems to be a quality sign - also for the better desktop monitors. It is mentioned together with 8 Bit for RGB-Led and these settings in ControlPoint software. But it is nowhere indicated if only RGB display in M6400/6500 is meant or M4400 too... :))))) marketing... :D

Christoph you have the RGB-Led display without these ControlPoint settings? ok!

    Cheers, Walter

If this is true it would be the very first 8-bit TN panel ever made. Technology wise it is possible, just nobody did it yet. Are you sure it's not just another software solution? Like maybe fine-tuned dithering? It's good to know that they at least do some decent profiling but i'm still doubting whether it's truely 8-bit.

LG claims one (only one) of their displays to be real 8 Bit. Look here:

    Hi Walter K,

I was looking at that; I was thinking of replacing the M6500 Display Panel, with this one. What do you think?

    Ah you're right! :D
Wish they would do this for more sizes. Weird it's only that one model in that one size. Give us back our HQ options!! ;)

I hope too! :) Because i like Dell customer service, always 100% satisfied. Also interested in new Lenovo W510 with 95% gamut RGB-Led display including optional Xrite Pantone sensor for calibrating. But if without 8 Bit I would prefer to go for good 6 Bit sRGB display like your 2CCFL. ;)

Regarding RGB-Led in M4400 I got no info from German customer support - not available here. Maybe a soon upcoming M4500 has RGB-Led again...

so still searching... not a matter of price, only quality - but want to avoid big 17" workstations to stay mobile...

Yeah same here, I'd only go for a 17" if they'd manage to slice the weight by a third or so...mantaining full power ofcourse ;)
And true, i'm still pretty pleased with my display. It's VERY bright, i usually have it at 40% or something but most long hours are spent on external monitors. While the high-res helps greatly in 3dsmax and such it's much better to have that resolution on an 24" or 27" :D

We can only hope for the config of the updates. I'll probably skip this one and get a new system next year though, who knows what that might bring.
