No, theýre all simple TN panels with 6-bit color. The different backlighting doesn't change the panel itself and the WUXGA panels are identical whether you have RGB LED or 2CCFL.

    What part do you mean?
That they are the same panels? RGB LED and 2CCFL have the same hardware-id.
Have you read anywhere that the RGB LED should be true 8bit? They use dithering to achieve 8bit colors but TN panels are NEVER truly 8bit. That is only available in MVA or IPS panels, in all their different forms.

Regarding to Dell's statement on website Precision RGB-Led screens should be 8 Bit versions with PremierColor software. M4400 RGB-led owners!! Do you have PremierColor implanted?

    Hi LPTP-LVR,

This is the same debate that is going on about the M6500; I am with you on this.
That’s why you can’t calibrate the Display Panel,

    M6500 or M6400

The ultimate combination of enhanced resolution, brightness, 100% color gamut for color availability and wider viewing angle for the ability to display more information for presentations, complex documents, and graphics17.0" WUXGA – RGBLEDM6500 or M6400

    Hello to Amsterdan!

I read that you calibrated the 2CCFL screen on M4400 with Pantone calibrator. Maybe you can give me/us some data / report about deltaE or gamut in comparison to sRGB? How about luminance of the 2CCFL display during life time?

I have tested myself many laptops so far - searching for best display on market. But no M4400 and M6400/6500 available. Best display up to now was present Apple Mac Book Pro 15, which looked after calibrating with Eye-One Pro really good in comparison to a calibrated Dell 2209WA. My present Dell only ugly... :( Lenovo W700 is also fine, but too heavy load during trips and vacation...

    Best, Walter

    Hey WalterK and MannyA :D

You CAN actually calibrate the non-RGB LED WUXGA screens, it's the RGB LED where most calibration devices have issues with. The newest Spyder Elite 3 however is built with RGB LED in mind and does a pretty good job. That the one i'm getting as an upgrade to the Huey Pro. The Huey does a fine job (made my screen a whole lot better than the ones on the MBP's anyway) but the downside is that there aren't too many option. I can't get a decent readout from it and not to much configuration possible. I only paid $70,- for or something so that's ok.

The luminance is still VERY good but i have to admit i usually use external monitors. On that side, i did get the 2CCFL to look pretty the same as both my 2709W and HP 2475 (wish i didn't get that last one and had waited for the u2410 :( )
All in all i think the RGB LED screen used in the m4400 is definetly the best 15,4 screen out there, with the 2CCFL as a close second. Same goes for the RGB LED screens in the 17" models.....i just wish they would make laptop IPS screens again!!! I had one in my old AsusV6V :D

    Good Morning,

I assume my Gretag (Xrite) Eye-One Pro should have no problems. Can you report something about color temperature before calibration and your deltaE values?

Here snowing again... Greetz to Amsterdan, Walter :D

Not sure if the Eye-One will do the same. Older versions simply didn't take RGB LED into account because it wasn't used yet. I'd look up the specs on that at Gretag if i were you.
Sadly the Pantone Huey has no option for deltaE readouts and such, one of the reasons i'm looking to upgrade.

Snow is finally gone here but will probably be back again next week or so ;)

It is, but you'll have to order via phone. That's always a good idea at Dell, their website often has outdated/incorrect options. Also, you can usually get a good percentage off the final price if you order via phone and ask for it.

Huh, what's PremierColor? I've never heard of that before, my M4400 certainly didn't come with any profiles.

I once read that Dell said they'd even have different profiles available online for download, bu so far, I have never seen anything like that on their website either. Now I really wonder what this PremierColor software does, does anyone have more information on that besides what's written on the website Walter already linked to?
