The Pantone works pretty good but it depends, if you can get the Spyder 3 for a decent sum i'd definetly get it.

dammit...you made me do a search and i found the Spyder 3 Elite for only € 169,99.....down from €259,-
    Guess i'm upgrading too :D

    Hi Checho,

Can you provide me the actual Dell part number to get a 2CCFL WUXGA screen? The Dell people I talk to say there is no such option for the M4400 but I know they must be wrong because you have one! Thanks a lot.

In my first replacement, the part number was:

    HT009 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., 15.4WUXGA, 2-CCFL, LENGTH/LONG...
    And I got a Samsung SEC5443 rev01.

    More info:

In my second replacement, the part number was:

    RX392 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., 15.4WUXGA, 2-CCFL, SAMSUNG...
    And I got a Samsung SEC5443 rev00.

Well, I just talked with the sale rep, who had just talked with the manufacturing department. They NO LONGER BUILD M4400's with AG (2CCFL) screens! No matter who you are or what you are willing to pay!

I was told to order E6500 if I want that option. But of ourse the NVIDIA chip is slower there so that's not so good.

I guess all you with the 2CCFL are very fortunate to have ordered before the option went away.

Weird, in the UK it's the complete opposite. Dell sent me a replacement M4400 due to their engineers making a complete horlicks out of repairing the original (had screen replaced, then motherboard, then palm rest twice then keyboard stopped working...) and it arrived with dual CCFL when the original one had RGB-LED. I asked about this and was told they no longer offer the M4400 with the RGB-LED screen so sent an engineer to change the parts around.

    Weird.

Anyway, since my old laptop hasn't been collected yet I had the opportunity of comparing the two screens side by side. The CCFL one is pretty good but it doesn't have the "depth" of colour that you get with the RGB-LED screen.

To complete your numbers: I think the RGBLED is about 130% Adobe RGB.

In January I got from Dell sales rep that info regarding screens for M4400:

Type (active-matrix TFT) WXGA, WXGA+, WUXGA
Dimensions 391 mm (15.4 inches), wide aspect (16:10 ratio)
    Maximum Resolutions
    WXGA CCFL 1280 x 800 with 18-bit color (262 K)
    WXGA+ LED 1440 x 900 with 18-bit color (262 K)
    WXGA+ 2-CCFL 1920 x 1200 with 18-bit color (262 K)
Operating angle 0° (closed) to 160°
    Refresh rate 60 Hz
    Viewing angles
    Horizontal WXGA: 40/40°
    WXGA+: 55/55°
    WUXGA: 55/55°
    Vertical WXGA: 15/30°
    WXGA+: 45/45°
    WUXGA: 45/45°
    Pixel pitch WXGA: 0.2373
    WXGA+: 0.2109
    WUXGA: 0.1725
    Power consumption
(panel with backlight, typical) WXGA: 6.2 W (max.) with no inverter losses
    WXGA+: 5.8 W (max.)
    WUXGA: 13.0 W (max.)

RGB-Led screen is not available here in Austria/Germany? 2CCFL screen has only 6 Bit color - I assume the Precision RGB-Led screen has real 8 bit?

    Best, Walter
