That's a good point. You're definitely right about the weight of the drive being pretty light compared to rest of the machine. Thanks!

Ambient Light Sensor has to be turned on in the bios and is controlled by Dell ControlPoint software. My opinion - Don't use it.

Ambient Light Sensor (I think) also controls "backlit" keyboard if that option was available.

Yup, it's set that way. No worky.
I am not bug by it, it's just that it something I would like to have working as I paid for it (part of the price of the laptop).

I just wanted to add that I've been using the (overpriced) blank for half a year now. Even though the difference in weight between the ODD and the blank is small, the weight saved with an SSD, intel graphics heatsink, non-backlit keyboard, ODD blank, etc, all add up.

My brother has a "standard" E6400 with Nvidia graphics, HDD, ODD, etc, and the weight difference is really quite noticeable.

Since I use the E6410 touchpad drivers, my touch pad works perfectly.

Nope, e6410 drivers suck, theyre very thirsty sucking
And i have problems with the hinge again, after its been replaced, its an atg model isnt it suppose to resist vibrations? and mine had a peaceful in the house life, i only took it out a few times
i know its refurbished but still isnt it supposed to work?
at least the warranty is working, and service

What kind of a laptop is this where i have to use drivers from another manufacturer in order for the component to work more or less normaly?
or why do i have to exchange the hinges 2 times?
congratulations dell you have another unsatisfied customer
    Fack you dell

huh? Since when? what are you talking about?

I got mine, (E6400) replaced... well not because of the same issue, it's because I had a wireless problem, with 5GHz N signal... and after changing the antenna was next. When the technician came with a new lid, you could see, as he noted himself, one the antennas wires was not even connected. Oups. Anyway, as I have a new lid, I had new hinges. And these latest one are dam stiff. It's been 4 months since the issue, and the hinges are still at the same stiffness. I guess I got the latest revision.

Anyway, What I think, is that the screws that hold the hinge on the laptop base (under the silver plastic plates to the left and right of the battery, was not tight securely. All you have to do is a get a proper Phillips (X) shape screw driver, and tight it strongly, put back the plastic cover and screw those tightly, but not too much... just barely tight, as you might break them.

Try the A01 drivers of the E6410. If that doesn't help, then please describe the problem in details. I am sure it's some stupid options in the thouchpad settings, but I can't tell you which to adjust until I get details. Also be sure that you uninstall the old drivers first, restart your computer, and install the latest ones. What Windows version and type do you use?

Unsatisfied? Really? Ok get an HP, Acer, or Sony or ASUS, or any other brands including Apple.. you'll run back to Dell like no tomorrow.
I think you are just asking too much.
Lenovo you say? As an IT, I can assure you that our failure rate/problems of both our Dell and Lenovo are identical.
At least with Dell we have someone to come to repair it. Lenovo you have to ship to them.

I said it before and say it again. Every laptop has it's downsides. Always a big flaw. Consider yours not being your hardware, where you computer stop working when you most need it. Now THAT will you off!
