I agree. I have Windows 7 on my system and it runs perfectly fine. All features works as expected. The only problem I have is the ambient light sensor not working as I am not using Dell web site drivers, but rather the much newer drivers from Nvidia website (so the ambient light sensor doesn't work). But I don't even use that feature so I don't really care.

Your old battery had a designed capacity of 57720mWh, which means it was a 6 cell. However, your new battery is claiming to have a designed capacity of 94500mWh which is even more than the new 90Wh 9 cell. what battery / part number did you receive?

Wow, the hinges in the E6400 (and the E6500 and successors probably) are dramatically stronger-looking than on the D-series. The problem with the D-series hinges was that the case broke because it was made of pot metal. Looks like Dell has really taken the feedback and come up with a better design (or supplier!).

I'm a new member and a proud new (used) owner of an E6400. I don't intend on using the optical drive much and was wondering if Dell (or anyone) sells a good filler to fill the void of an empty optical slot.

The optical drive is very light, you won't notice if it's not there. You can cut power to it with Windows Power Options (Vista and Win7 only). Or via the BIOS if you don't use a modern OS or you use something else.
