Apparently we're trying to keep the size of the notebook owner's threads down around 2k to 3k posts, so I feel it's prudent to split this owner's thread.

For reference, here is the original owner's thread, which will now be closed.

For reference, here's the last message of the old thread, since it's an unresolved problem.

You might try to contact Dell again, perhaps a different rep will be more helpful.

Sorry for the double post, but it's a different subject.

Does anyone know if the E6400 with ExpressCard works with ViDock 2? If yes, what's the best video card you can use such that the ExpressCard interface is not a bottleneck?

We have a few ViDock 2 threads (including this one) so you might want to hit up the search function. Considering that it only uses a single PCIe lane I wouldn't expect miracles but it might work.

can someone reopen the closed thread and link to this thread?

also, this may be a stupid question, but is it possible to get true 5.1 surround out of the e6x00 without using an external usb soundcard?

fully aware of that. was just hoping there was some adapter option (possibly for the display port which carries audio) or pc card/express card option.

If you're just looking for a PCMCIA/ExpressCard sound card, there's plenty of options out there. I'm sure even the most basic of them will offer 5.1 surround... just look for "PCMCIA sound card" or "ExpressCard sound card" on eBay or whatnot.

I just ordered a refurb e6400 from the outlet. My plan is to replace the hard drive with an SSD I had ordered last month. My questions for the lounge:

    1. Are there any guides on the board on replacing the original hdd with your own? I don't know if dell ships OS disks with their laptops.

    2. Are there any "do this first" guides for a new latitude - like things to check, flashing the bios, etc?
