Your laptop is supposed to have 3 disks
- Roxio disk burning software
- PowerDVD
- Dell Driver Disk
- Vista disk (hopefully 64-bit disk, else win7 will be in 32-bit and I hope you have 3 or under GB of RAM)

When you'll Win7 and upgrade your system, your Vista and XP license will be turned invalid (ie: Activation will fail)

 

there is no difference between 32 bit and 64 bit keys. if they send you the 32 bit disc, just find a copy of the 64 bit disc (borrow it, download it, whatever.) your key will properly activate it (you may have to call windows telephone activation to get hte code)

Still no updated thermal profiles

 

So A16 special build has it fixed but not A17.
I think you guys should inform Dell that A16 special build has the problem resolved.

 

I still haven't managed to download A17 to test it.

I have small hope, that maybe thermal profiles change is not being mentioned - Dell might be trying to not admit the problem, instead fix it quietly...

 

Whoa whoa, what is this "A16 special build"? What does it fix that A17 doesn't?

Some people are reporting to not have throttling problem. So I guess something was changed with the fan and throttling limit.

 

dell doesn't mention many of the (even very important) changes in the bios updates for precisely that reason. there was an immensely irritating touchpad/keyboard problem at the beginning of the release that prevented simultaneous key presses of some keys and the touchpad when lightly pressed made the system think the control key was being pressed. long story short, it was silently fixed.

Unfortunately A17 doesn't seem to include the changes to the thermal table that the beta BIOS included. The fan still goes to full speed mode at 50C chipset temp.
