Mine handles heat quite well whether docked or not. I have a P processor and Nvidia graphics, and the fan usually is off. I suppose it will be at slow speed with that ambient temperature but it should not be a big deal for the E6400 to handle.

Good to know about the heat.
And the trackpoint? I am not near any store to try it, but I remember trying the trackpoint of an old 14.1 dell (d630?) some years ago and it was kind of hard to move. Any improvement since then?

I tried the trackpoint briefly and it seems responsive enough, but I like touchpads much more and I don't use the trackpoint much. It seems fine to me but someone else might answer you better.

trackpoint is at par with thinkpads....
what i did was change the dell nipple to the thinkad's red nipple. i find thinkpad's nipple better

Thank you for trying :) I am the opposite: I always use the trackpoint and rarely the touchpad. My life would be much easier if all laptops started to come with both.
Funny, that is exactly what I was planning to do. I also like the main nipple of Thinkpads (althought I had bad experiences with lenovo and I am not considering a Thinkpad this time). Does the thinkpad's main nipple fit well? Doesn't it press the E6400's screen?

See signature, I overclock my GPU like crazy on demand when I play games on it, and the laptop has no problem in handling the extra heat. How's that as an answer? :)

Upgraded straight from A15 to A17. A new temperature sensor showed up in Everest. It is tagged as GMCH1 and its temperature is close to the chipset in idle but higher under load conditions like when watching flash video. For example starting from 44/43°C Chipset/GMCH1 when starting a video in full-screen I get 44/51°C almost instantly. And dropping out from full screen causes the second value to drop to like 48 or 47°C. Compared to the Chipset the GMCH1 is very quickly responding to load-conditions. After watching fullscreened flash for a minute I get 46/52°C. Also there is a Aux-Sensor which I can't remember having noticed it before.
While writing this text and testing the temperature behavior there popped up another sensor called GMCH2 with significantly lower values than GMCH1. For example 52/38°C.
It seems to me like Dell has been tinkering around with that stuff to get some more differentiated readings. To tell from the name these new sensors could be related to the memory controller hub or GM like the chipset and CH for channel. I have a two monitor setup which knowingly increases the load on the graphics chip. Just speculating here. Also these new sensors could be just virtual to trick the fan control? :)

It usually takes me some days to gather empirical values on the overall fan behavior. No statements to be made yet. I was planning to get one of those Zalman notebook coolers. I hope that plan is obsolete now.

I upgraded to A17 and did not get this new sensor. What monitoring software are you using?

I upgraded to A17 and my TPM works better now. I used to have to reboot 2x to be have the TPM service not hang. It was quite annoying to have the computer work only every 3rd reboot! Hopefully it sticks.
