I would suspect misbehaving software. Remove/Uninstall recently added devices/drivers one at a time to see if the problem stops. If you can isolate the culprit, try re-installing a new download of the most recent version for your OS... XP?

Regarding chronic PC problems... if the hardware is healthy, then you just need to experiment a bit with re-imaging your systems to get a solid installation. Then they will be stable and you can get back to confident computing. Living with a sick computer is not an option.

The desktop and this computer are not related at all.
I planned to install W7 anyways so if i install the same driver that may be causing this will i have problems?

And ill look into the browser history.

    ambient light sensor

You don't you just memtest it for a while and see if you get any errors?

The Win7 driver will likely be different, particularly if you move to x64.

    Browser history???

Graphics, then input devices. It sort of sounds like the fault occurs at the point where booting Windows switches over to the high-end video driver.

Work them one at a time so that you can hope to isolate the issue.

Can you boot in Safe Mode without faulting? This would reinforce the software suspicion.

Also would not hurt to run some hardware tests... the Dell Diagnostics CD if you have it. When these come back PASSED, then you know you just need to clean up a software glitch.

The doubt i have with memtest or hardware diagnostics is that sometimes my supposedly faulty ram works fine, so it might not find the problem. Of course i will run it after i get the error but ill have to wait.

And the way it works is this: i get a bluescreen, i restart now it might boot it might show me a bluescreen.
Anyway after i get a bluescr i can restart and go to safe mode no problem. It booted every time i tried it (2-3times).

Hardware is probably fine. I'd try installing a newer video driver, either from Dell or from the OEM.
