I just came upon this thread. I've been looking into the D630 vs. the Inspiron 1420, and now I'm blown away by the new E-series. I have a few questions on the E6400:

    1. Is the starting price shown in the links being passed around the price WITHOUT discount? Will Dell likely provide a $300 coupon to drop the retail price like you currently get with the D630?
    2. What is the advantage of backlighting for the new keyboard?
    3. Is the new LED, high-res screen going to be gloss or anti-glare/matte? Will it surpass the D630 high-res rescreen in terms of color, sharpness, etc.? Can I compare it to the MacBook Pro anti-glare screen which I saw in BestBuy?
    4. What is the max capacity in terms of gig of memory? Does it come with 32or 64-bit Vista?
    5. Will the speakers be dramatically improved over the D630?
    6. What will happen to the D-series line?

I know all we have is conjectures, but I'm trying to anticipate this. Can't wait until tomorrow.

    2. You can use it at night without having to turn on the lights.

    4. 8GB. 32-bit only if you purchase through small business, but if you purchase through medium and large business sector, you will be able to choose.

    5. Only if it has two. If Dell releases DCSE training materials on it, I will be able to tell you if it has two or one.

    6. EOL (but hopefully after some major discounts).

Dont know if anyone has noticed, but it seems dell is updating some of the options on the configuration pages.

Last night the biggest hard drive in the E6500 was 160GB and now it has a 250GB option.

Has anyone noticed any other changes?

EDIT: They also seem to have removed the 1900x1200 screen.

Yeah, other than those two, I haven't seen any other changes on the new laptops. The inclusion of the 250GB drive makes sense because the E6400 had it from the beginning.

On the note of the S-Video port, it is likely that the DisplayPort will have an adapter for S-Vid.

I dunno, I remember when the Vostro line was launched-many of us stayed up at midnight into the wee hours of the night waiting for (and seeing) pages go live. Here was the thread about it: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=139551

Quite an entertaining process, seeing the prices change between really oddball figures and even the names of the laptops themselves change too-keep this in mind when using the pre-release "configurators" up now.;) :)
